Crochet bag “Daisy 2"

Crochet a wonderful bag in squares

Now you can crochet a new variant of our bag “Daisy”, in which the squares are crocheted in exactly the same way, but the handles are different: “Daisy 1" is crocheted with two handles on the long sides, and this bag “Daisy 2" is crocheted with a shoulder strap between the short sides. Both instructions are made for beginners and we go through all the steps together! The choice of color is entirely up to you, you can make your bag single-colored as in the photo or crochet the squares with several colors. In the instruction we use the yarn EKO Nano with crochet hook 6 mm. You can also use our yarn EKO Mini, as you see in the picture with the yellow bag. This bag has been crocheted and photographed by Tova Pettersson.

Yarn consumption: approx. 700g-1000g, depending on whether you use EKO Nano or EKO Mini. With EKO Mini, the bag gets a little thicker and then you need a whole 1000g roll.

Here's how to do it

We will start by crocheting 14 squares, then we will assemble all the sides on the bottom piece. Then we fasten the sides with each other and last crochet the handles. “Daisy” 1 and “Daisy” 2 have different types of handles, otherwise the bags are exactly the same. So just choose your favorite handle and crochet it. The bag can vary in size depending on how hard you crochet, the bag in the video measures (when lying flat) 42 cm (widest stand) and 35 cm high. Keep in mind that the first part of the video for “Daisy” 2 is the same as “Daisy” 1, which means that the first part is filmed in different colors on the squares than the last part of the video has. But everything is exactly the same until you get to the handle, so follow the video:) /Lizette

Steg 1

We start by crocheting 14 squares. The squares will be about 13 x 13 cm in size depending on how hard you crochet.

Inner Ring
Start with color 1. Hold the yarn in your left hand. Twist the yarn around your fingers (left hand) three times. Use your crochet hook to go under the first two loops and hook the third with your crochet hook. Pick up the yarn again and pull under the two finger loops, hook the yarn onto the crochet hook and pull through. Now the loop on the crochet hook hold the inner ring together and you can proceed below.

Round 1: Crochet two loops (this chain replaces the first half double crochet). After that, crochet 11 half double crochets in the inner ring. A half double crochet is crocheted by taking yarn over your crochet hook and go down with the crochet hook into the inner ring, pick up yarn and pull through (you have three loops on your crochet hook), pick up yarn and pull through all three loops. You have now crocheted a half double crochet.

Crochet a total of 11 half double crochets plus a chain of two loops at the beginning. Finish by going down in the third loop you made at the beginning. Pick up yarn and pull through both loops directly. Leave 10 cm of yarn end and cut.

Steg 2

Round 2: Start by making a loop around your crochet hook. One way you can do this is to wrap the yarn around your index and middle finger and then pull the yarn up so that it creates a loop. Tighten around your crochet hook.

Go down the stitch between the first and second half double crochet, pick up the yarn and pull through both loops. Crochet two loops. Go down in the same stitch and crochet a double crochet but you should not do the last pull through i.e. you take the yarn over the crochet and go down with the crochet hook into the stitch, pick up yarn and pull through (you have 3 loops on your crochet hook), pick up yarn and pull through two loops (you have two loops left on your crochet hook). Do the same thing one more time so that you then have three loops on the crochet hook. Pick up yarn and pull through all loops. Crochet a single loop. Now you have crocheted one “leaf”.

Yarn over and go down the next stitch and do the same thing. You don't have to crochet three loose in the beginning but you crochet three "half" double crochets instead of three loops + two "half" double crochets. Do this 11 times (don't forget a single loop between. Finish by going down the third loop of the first chain, pick up the yarn and pull through. When you're done, you should have 12 leaves.

Leave 10 cm of yarn end and cut off.

Steg 3

Round 3 - making the square shape

1. Hole 1: Make a loop around your crochet hook and start in a 'hole' (between two leaves) and crochet 3 loops. Then crochet two double crochets in the same hole. A double crochet is crocheted by taking yarn over your crochet hook and go down with your crochet hook into the inner ring, pick up the yarn and pull through (you have three loops on your crochet hook), pick up yarn and pull through two loops, pick up yarn and pull through the last two loops. You have now crocheted a double crochet. In hole 1 you have crocheted 3 loops and two double crochets.

Do not crochet a chain between the double crochets.
2. Hole 2: Crochet three double crochets.
3. Hole 3: Now you should crochet treble crochets. Take yarn over your crochet hook twice (you have three loops) and go down in the hole and pick up the yarn and pull through. Yarn over again and pull through 2 loops. Yarn over and pull through two loops again and yan over one last time and pull through the last two loops. Do the same thing two more times. Crochet two loops, and then three treble crochets in the same hole. This is the first corner.

Repeat holes 1-3 three times more so you have four sides. Finish by going through the first stitch on the lap, picking up yarn and pulling through all loops. Cut off and fasten the yarn tails.

Fasten all the yarn tails. Tie the remaining tail in a knot around the last loop (or with another yarn end) on the backside of the square to prevent it from going up. Hide the tail by fastening it through a few closeby loops.

Steg 4

Fasten all the squares together

We will crochet a front and a back piece, as well as two side pieces and a bottom piece. The side pieces and the bottom piece are crocheted together in the same way and the front and back piece are crocheted together in the same way. We start with the front/back side.

Choose four squares that you want to be on your front/back side. We will crochet them together horizontally (see picture below):

Start by making a loop on the crochet hook, go down the corner on both squares and pick up yarn and pull through. Start in the next stitch and crochet slip stitches in front the loops that are closest to you on each squares. A slip stitch is crocheted by going down the stitch (under the loop closest to you on the both squares), picking up yarn and pulling through all the loops directly.

Continue this way until the first two squares are attached together, continue with the other two squares and crochet in the same way so that all four squares are attached.

Cut off and leave 10 cm of yarn tail. Fasten off the yarn tail like we have done before.

Now, crochet the squares together vertically in the same way as before (see picture 2), but do not cut the yarn. Start as the blue arrow shows. After you have crocheted the squares together, crochet a loop. Then continue crocheting one round around the whole piece with single crochet (see black arrows and dashes). How to crochet a single crochet; you go down under the stitch (not only front loop) and pick up yarn (you have two loops on the crochet hook), pick up yarn again and pull through. Finish the round by going down the first stitch where you started the round and pick up yarn and pull through straight away.

Crochet one more piece in the same way so you have two pieces with four squares on each.

Steg 5

We will crochet two side pieces and a bottom piece. All of these are crocheted in the same way. Choose two squares for each part.

Start at the blue arrow. Start by making a loop on the crochet hook, go down under the corners on both squares and pick up yarn and pull through. Start in the next stitch and crochet slip stitches in those front loops thart are closest to you on each square . A slip stitch is crocheted by going down the stitch (under the front loop closest to you on both squares), pick up the yarn and pull through all loops directly. Continue until you have crocheted the sides together.

Crochet one round around the whole piece in the same way as we did on the front/back piece.

Crochet two more pieces in the same way, so that you have three pieces.

Steg 6

Assembling part

Select the bottom part of the bag. Now we will crochet all the parts together with each other. We will first crochet one round around the bottom and at the same time fasten all the parts to the bottom. So start by having the bottom part with the nice side up. Then put the front piece above it and fasten them with each other (see photo).

How to fasten them: Start by making a loop on your crochet hook, go down in the corners on both squares (make sure to have nice sides out), pick up the yarn and pull through. Start in the next stitch and crochet slip stitches in those under front loops only, which are the loops closest to you on each square. Continue until you have attached the front piece with the bottom. When you are at the corner, crochet one more slip stitch in the same stitch, but go down into the corner stitch on the side piece and bottom piece and continue crocheting around the bottom to attach the first side piece.

Now do the same with the back piece and second side piece.

All the parts have been attached to the bottom part and we will go to the next step and fasten all the sides with each other.

Steg 7

Assembling part 2

All the parts are fasten together with the bottom piece, next assembling part will be to attach all sides with each other. Start in a corner down at the bottom and crochet from bottom and up, attaching två sides of the pieces together. Use the same technique as before. Cut the yarn.

Do the same with all four sides so that the bag gets its shape. Now, fasten all yarn tails in the same way as before. A tip is to twist the bag inside out and  fasten all yarn tails on the inside of the bag.

The next step is to crochet handles.

Steg 8

‍Now it's tim for the shoulder strap. irstwe will crochet one or two rounds around the top of the bag. You can choose if you want to crochet more rounds.

Start where the side piece meets the front piece. Make a loop around your crochet hook and go down in the stitch, crocheting a single crochet stitch into each stitch. Single crochet; Go down into a stitch, pick up yarn and pull through. You now have two loops on your crochet hook. Pick up the yarn and pull through both loops. Crochet one round (or more if you like).

When you are satisfied, you stop when you are at the end on the front/back side (i.e. before crocheting on the short side). Watch the video if you are unsure.

Steg 9

Shoulder strap

Cut two short pieces of yarn and mark out on the short side where your handle should start and end. The handle should be in the middle on the short side and consist of six stitches. So mark the first and last of these six stitches so the handle ends up in the center of the side piece.

Row 1:

Crochet single crochets until you reach your second mark. Crochet a loop (pull the loop a little to make it a bit bigger). Then you turn your project and crochet back (we thus crochet in rows).

Row 2:

1. Skip the first stitch (the loop that you just made) and start in the second stitch (so you have six stitches to crochet in). Start with a double crochet by taking the yarn over your crochet hook. Go down the stitch and pick up yarn and pull through, pick up the yarn again and pull through two loops on your hook, pick up the yarn one last time and pull through the last two stitches.

2. Skip a stitch.

3. Crochet a “cluster” into the next stitch accordingly. Cluster: Yarn over your crochet hook and go down into the stitch pick up the yarn and pull through. Pick up the yarn and pull through two of the loops on your hook. Repeat this two more times so you have four stitches on your crochet hook and three “legs” in your so-called “cluster”. Pick up the yarn and pull through three loops, pick up yarn and pull through the last loops.

4. Crochet two loops.

5. Crochet one more cluster into the next stitch. Crochet in the same way as point 3 above.

6. Skip a stitch.

7. Crochet a double crochet in the last stitch.

8. Crochet a loose loop (pull a little so it gets loose) and turn your work.

Row 3 and forward:

Row 3 is crocheted as many times as needed to achieve the length of the shoulder strap as you wish.

1. Skip the first stitch (the loop that you just made) and start in the second stitch. Start with a double crochet by taking the yarn over your crochet hook. Go down the stitch and pick up yarn and pull through, pick up the yarn again and pull through two loops on your hook, pick up the yarn one last time and pull through the last two stitches.

2. Crochet a “cluster” into the hole from the last row. Cluster: Yarn over your crochet hook and go down into the hole and pick up the yarn and pull through. Pick up the yarn and pull through two of the loops on your hook. Repeat this two more times so you have three “legs” in your “cluster”. Pick up the yarn and pull through three loops, pick up yarn and pull through the last loops.

3. Crochet two loops.

4. Crochet one more cluster in the same hole as your first cluster.

5. Crochet a double crochet in the last stitch.

6. Crochet a loose loop (pull a little so it gets loose) and turn your work.

When you are satisfied with the length of the shoulder strap, we crochet a finishing row, see next step.

Steg 10

Finishing row: Skip the first loop that we just made and then crochet two single crochets in the next two stitches. Go down the first stitch, pick up yarn and pull through. Pick up yarn again and pull through. After you have crocheted two single crochets, crochet two single crochets in the hole. Finally, crochet two single crochets in the last two stitches.

Mark out on the other short side of your bag where to attach the shoulder strap. Keep in mind that it should be the 6-7 middle stitches. Mark the first and last stitch so you know where to crochet.

After that, put the shoulder strap and the side of the bag together so that we can crochet through both at the same time. Keep in mind to check that the shoulder strap is not twisted.

Go under the front loops on both the side and the shoulder strap, the front loop is that loop that is closest to you (look at the stitches, they have two lines, the one closest to you is the one you are going to use). Go under both front loops and pick up yarn and pull through all the loops directly. Do so with all six stitches. In the video, we have added an extra stithc in the end.

Does this feel a bit difficult? Check out the video and it will be easier:)

Attach the yarn tails on the inside of the bag by going under a loop and tie a knot. Then hide the yarn tail under som closeby stitches.

Your bag is ready! Hope you like it and we would be happy if you would like to share your bag with us by tagging #createwithmyo

Steg 1

We start by crocheting 14 squares. The squares will be about 13 x 13 cm in size depending on how hard you crochet.

Inner Ring

Finish the round by going down the first stitch where you started the round and pick up yarn and pull through straight away.

Crochet one more piece in the same way so you have two pieces with four squares on each.

Steg 5

We will crochet two side pieces and a bottom piece. All of these are crocheted in the same way. Choose two squares for each part.

Start at the blue arrow. Start by making a loop on the crochet hook, go down under the corners on both squares and pick up yarn and pull through.

Crochet bag “Daisy 2"

Crochet bag “Daisy 2"
