Steg 1

Round 1: Start by making a slipknot and crochet 21 chains. In the second chain from your hook, begin working single crochets — crochet a total of 20 single crochets across the chain. In the last stitch, work an increase by adding 2 extra single crochets (3 single crochets total in that stitch). Then continue on the other side of the foundation chain, working back down the other side. Finish with an increase (2 single crochets in the same stitch) in the last stitch. You should have a total of 42 stitches.

For help with making a foundation chain, single crochet, or crocheting around a chain, see the videos linked below.

Steg 2

Tip: Use a stitch marker in your last stitch of the round so you always know where the round ends. This will help you keep track and make sure you have the correct number of stitches. The bag will be crocheted in a spiral (continuous rounds, no joining).

Round 2: Start by making 2 single crochets in the first stitch. Then crochet 18 single crochets (1 in each stitch). In the next 3 stitches, work increases — meaning 2 single crochets in each of those stitches.

Continue along the other long side with normal single crochets, and in the last 2 stitches of the round, make increases (2 single crochets in each). You should now have a total of 48 stitches.

Steg 3

Round 3: Crochet single crochets as usual all the way around. You should have a total of 48 stitches.

Round 4: Now you will start making bobble stitches. *Make 1 bobble stitch, then 2 single crochets*. Repeat this sequence *...* around the entire round 16 times.
If you’re unsure how to make a bobble stitch, see the video below.

Steg 4

Round 5: Single crochet in each stitch from the previous round. You should have a total of 48 stitches.

Round 6: *Sc in 1 stitch, then make 1 bobble stitch*. Then repeat the sequence: 2 single crochets, 1 bobble stitch. End with your last bobble stitch and 1 single crochet. You should have 48 stitches / 16 bobble stitches in total.

Round 7: Single crochet in each stitch. Total 48 stitches.

Round 8: 2 single crochets, then 1 bobble stitch. Repeat around. Total 48 stitches.

Round 9: Single crochet in each stitch. Total 48 stitches.

Round 10: 1 bobble stitch, then 2 single crochets. Repeat around. Total 48 single crochets.

Round 11: Single crochet in each stitch. Total 48 stitches.

Round 12: Sc in 1 stitch, then 1 bobble stitch. Repeat: 2 single crochets, 1 bobble stitch until you have two stitches lift. End with your last bobble stitch and 1 single crochet. Total 48 stitches / 16 bobble stitches.

Round 13: Single crochet in each stitch. Total 48 stitches.

Round 14: 2 single crochets, then 1 bobble stitch. Repeat around. Total 48 stitches.

Round 15: Single crochet in each stitch. Total 48 stitches.

Cut the yarn and fasten off. If you’re unsure how to fasten off, see the video below.

Steg 5

Step 2: The Handle

Mark where you want your handle to be on the short sides of the bag. The handle will be 5 single crochets wide.

Start on one side: Crochet 5 single crochets along the edge of the bag. Chain 1 and turn your work.

Repeat until you have 33 rows, or the length you prefer for your handle. Cut the yarn, leaving a slightly longer tail for sewing the handle onto the other side of the bag where you’ve marked. Use your crochet hook or a thick sewing needle, whichever you prefer.

Now crochet a finishing round of slip stitches along the edges of the bag and handle on both sides.

If you want a rounded handle, sew the edges of the handle together inside the slip stitch border you just made.

Fasten off and you are done :)
