Cross body bag “Iris”
Crochet a trendy "cross body bag" in our yarn EKO Nano tube yarn
The bag "Iris" is made of 4 round small flower squares which are then assembled. The video also shows how we attach a zipper and crochet the shoulder strap. The instructions is made for beginners so that everyone can crochet their own "cross body bag"
For this instruction, you need 1-4 colors of EKO nano, a crochet hook 6 mm, a zipper with a runner, and needle and thread to sew the zipper with. In the video, zippers are used that are bought by the meter, but you can use a ready-made zipper if you want. The measurement of the "cross body bag"; is approx. 45 cm, depending on whether you choose to make it bigger and how tight/loose you crochet. In the instructions, we crochet with the colors light peach, chalk green, and nature white.
Yarn consumption : About 250g depending on how tight/loose you crochet.
This is what you need:
Here's how to do it
We will start with the squares and the innermost color first. The squares will be approx. 14 x 14 cm in size, depending on how hard you crochet.
Innermost ring
Hold the yarn in your left hand. Twist the yarn around your fingers (left hand) three times. Use your crochet hook to go under the first two loops and hook the third with your crochet hook. Pick up the yarn again and pull under the two finger loops, hook the yarn onto the hook and pull through. Now the loop on the hook holds the double "inner ring" together and you can continue below.
Round 1: Start with color 1. Crochet two single loops (this chain replaces the first double crochet). Then crochet 11 double crochets in the innermost ring.
A double crochet is crocheted by taking the yarn over the hook and going down with the hook in the innermost ring, pick up yarn and pull through (you now have three loops on the hook), pick up yarn and pull through two loops (you have two loops left on the hook ), pick up the yarn one last time and pull through the last two loops. You have now crocheted a double crochet. Crochet a total of 11 double crochets plus a chain of three loops at the beginning. Finish by going down in the third loop from the loops you made at the beginning. Pick up yarn and pull through both loops immediately. Leave 10 cm of yarn end and cut.
Round 2: Start by making a loop around the crochet hook. One way you can do this is to wrap the yarn around your index and middle finger and then pull the yarn up so that the loop locks when you tighten.
Go down into the stitch between the first and second double crochet and pick up the yarn and pull through both loops. Now you crochet two loops. Now you should go down between the same double crochet again and crochet a double crochet , but you should not make the last pass, i.e. you take the yarn over the crochet hook and go down with the crochet hook in the stitch, pick up yarn and pull through (you now have 3 loops on the crochet hook), pick up yarn and pull through 2 (you have two loops on the crochet hook). Now you do the same thing twice and you then have four loops on the crochet hook. Pick up yarn and pull through all the loops. Crochet a loop.
Go down in the next stitch and do the same thing but you don't have to crochet three loose loops but you crochet four half double crochets instead of three loops + three half double crochets. Do this 11 times (don't forget a loose loop in between). Finish by going down into the third loop of the first chain, picking up yarn and pulling through. When you're done, you should have 12 leaves.
Leave 10 cm of yarn end and cut!
Start with the round that makes the square square.
1. Hole 1: Make a loop around the hook and start in a 'hole' and crochet 3 loops. Then crochet two double crochets in the same hole. Do not crochet a loop between the posts.
2. Hole 2: Crochet three double crochets.
3. Hole 3: Now you will crochet stud ice poles. Bring the yarn over the hook twice (you have three loops) and go down and pick up the yarn and pull through. Pick up the yarn again and pull through 2 loops. Pick up yarn and pull through two loops and pick up yarn one last time and pull through the last two loops. Do the same thing two more times. Crochet two loops and then three double crochets in the same hole. This is the first corner.
Repeat holes 1-3 a total of three more times so you have four sides. Finish by going through the first stitch on the round, picking up yarn, and pulling everything through immediately. Cut off.
Now we will crochet the last round. Make a loop around the hook and now crochet regular double crochets in each stitch and in the corners you crochet three double crochets in the holes. Finish by going through the first stitch and pull through. Cut off.
Attach all yarn ends. Tie the remaining tail in a knot around the last loop (or with another yarn end) on the inside of the box to prevent it from unraveling. Hide the tail by attaching it through some nearby loops.
Crochet the squares together
Now you have four squares and they must be attached to each other. Use the same color as you have on the last round.
Start by attaching two of the squares together. Attach one side of the squares to each other. Start by making a loop around the crochet hook and have the squares wrong side in (nice sides out). Make a loop around the crochet hook and pull the yarn through, then crochet slip stitches in the loops of each square closest to you, continue until done. A slip stitch is crocheted by going down with the crochet hook in both squares, picking up yarn and pulling through directly!
Continue all the way around. Note that you only go through the front loop of the stitches on both squares. The front mask arc is the one closest to you on the respective square. Cut and paste and continue below.
Fold the last two squares to form triangles. Start by attaching one of the triangles. See the picture below for a guide on how to attach the boxes. Attach in the same way as before according to the dashed lines below (on both the back and the front). Attach all yarn ends as before.
After you attach all four squares together, we will crochet around the top of the bag. Start at one corner of the bag and crochet a stitch in each stitch until you are back at the start. Crochet two (or more) rounds of stitches. Cut and attach.
Zipper
In this instruction, the zipper is explained on the basis that it is purchased by the meter.
Now we will fasten the zipper. Measure how long the bag is and add about 4-5 cm to the zipper before cutting to the right length. Put the runner on the zipper, watch the video if you are unsure. Attach the zipper on both sides with a needle and thread so that there is an equal amount sticking out of the bag on each side. Fasten two turns. At the end and at the beginning of the zipper, we want the runner to stop, so sew up and down over the zipper so that it stops when you pull.
Attach all threads in the same way as we attached the yarn ends. Tuck the ends of the zipper into the bag.
Now we will crochet the shoulder strap.
Start on one side of the bag. We will crochet in the two stitches that are on the corner. Start in the outermost stitch on the far right, make a loop around the hook and go down and get yarn, pull through. Then you crochet two stitches starting in the one you just went down in. Finish with a loop and turn. Now crochet two stitches, one in each, finish with a loop and turn.
Continue like this until you are happy with the length. Cut off and leave a longer yarn end, approx. 20 cm. Now we will attach the strap to the other side of the bag by selecting the two stitches that are on that edge and then, with the crochet hook, pull the yarn up and down between the strap and the side of the bag. Make sure it is attached tightly. Then attach the yarn as before.
Now your "cross body bag" is ready!
We will start with the squares and the innermost color first. The squares will be approx. 14 x 14 cm in size, depending on how hard you crochet.
