Crochet Clutch “Flora”

Crochet a nice handbag "clutch" in our yarn EKO Nano
This is a beginner-friendly tutorial that is suitable for everyone! A clutch is nice to have in everyday life but also for a wedding or party! It is made with 4 round small flower squares which are then assembled together. The video also shows how we attach a zipper. For this instruction you need 1-4 colors of EKO Nano Tube Yarn, a crochet hook 6 mm, a zipper with a runner and needle and thread to sew the zipper with. In the video, zippers are used that are bought by the meter, but you can use a ready-made zipper if you want. The measurement of the "clutch" is approx. 26 cm, depending on whether you choose to make it bigger and how tightly/loosely you crochet. The colors used in the video are light peach, chalk green and nature white.

Yarn consumption : About 220 g depending on how tight/loose you crochet and whether you choose to make it bigger or smaller.

Steg 1

We start by crocheting four squares. The squares will be approx. 14 x 14 cm in size, depending on how hard you crochet.
Innermost ring
Hold the yarn in your left hand. Twist the yarn around your fingers (left hand) three times. Use your crochet hook to go under the first two loops and hook the third with your crochet hook. Pick up the yarn again and pull under the two finger loops, hook the yarn onto the hook and pull through. Now the loop on the hook holds the double "inner ring" together and you can continue below.
Round 1: Start with color 1. Crochet two single loops (this chain replaces the first double crochet). Then crochet 11 double crochets in the innermost ring. A double crochet is crocheted by taking the yarn over the hook and going down with the hook in the innermost ring, pick up yarn and pull through (you now have three loops on the hook), pick up yarn and pull through two loops (you have two loops left on the hook ), pick up the yarn one last time and pull through the last two loops. You have now crocheted a double crochet.

Crochet a total of 11 double crochets plus a chain of three loops at the beginning. Finish by going down in the third loop from the loops you made at the beginning. Pick up yarn and pull through both loops immediately. Leave 10 cm of yarn end and cut.

Steg 2

Round 2: Start by making a loop around the crochet hook. One way you can do this is to wrap the yarn around your index and middle finger and then pull the yarn up so that the loop locks when you tighten.

Go down into the stitch between the first and second double crochet and pick up the yarn and pull through both loops. Now you crochet two loops. Now you should go down between the same double crochet again and crochet a double crochet , but you should not make the last pass, i.e. you take the yarn over the crochet hook and go down with the crochet hook in the stitch, pick up yarn and pull through (you now have 3 loops on the crochet hook), pick up yarn and pull through 2 (you have two loops on the crochet hook). Now you do the same thing twice and you then have four loops on the crochet hook. Pick up yarn and pull through all the loops. Crochet a loop.

Go down into the next stitch and do the same thing, but you don't have to crochet three loose loops, but you crochet four half double crochets instead of three loops + three half double crochets. Do this 11 times.

Leave 10 cm of yarn end and cut.

Steg 3

Round 3 - the round that makes the box square
1. Hole 1: Make a loop around the hook and start in a 'hole' and crochet 3 loops. Then crochet two double crochets in the same hole. Do not crochet a loop between the double crochet.
2. Hole 2: Crochet three double crochets.
3. Hole 3: Now you will crochet treble crochet. Bring the yarn over the hook twice (you have three loops) and go down and pick up the yarn and pull through. Pick up the yarn again and pull through 2 loops. Pick up yarn and pull through two loops and pick up yarn one last time and pull through the last two loops. Do the same thing two more times. Crochet two loops and then three treble crochet in the same hole. This is the first corner.

Repeat holes 1-3 a total of three more times so you have four sides. Finish by going through the first stitch on the round, picking up yarn and pulling everything through immediately. Cut and attach the yarn end.

Attach all yarn ends. Tie the remaining tail in a knot around the last loop (or with another yarn end) on the inside of the box to prevent it from unraveling. Hide the tail by attaching it through some nearby loops.

Steg 4

Crochet the squares together
Start by crocheting one side of two of the squares together. When you have attached one of the sides to each other, crochet around the two squares.

Start by making a loop on the hook, go down into the stitches on both squares and pick up yarn and pull through. Start in the same stitch and crochet slip stitches in the stitch loops that are closest to you on each square. A slip stitch is crocheted by going down into the stitch, picking up yarn and pulling through all the loops directly. Once you have crocheted the squares together, continue around the two squares. Crochet regular stitches in all stitches and in the corners you crochet three stitches in the same stitch.

Cut off and leave approx. 10 cm yarn end and fasten. Tighten and hide the tail by attaching it through a few nearby loops.

Do the same with the other two squares.

Steg 5

Now we will attach the two parts together

Place them wrong side in (nice sides out) and start crocheting them together. Start on a short side and crochet them together on the short side, then the long side and lastly the other short side. Use the same technique as before when you crocheted the parts together.

When you attach the last short side, you crochet loose loops, which will become the band around the wrist. Crochet as many loops as you wish to get the size you want. Then go down in the same stitch as the last one you crocheted on the clutch.

Now crochet a round of single crochets all around (go down into the next stitch and pick up yarn, pick up yarn again and pull through), also around the wrist loop. End here if you want or you crochet another 1-2 rounds. Finish by crocheting a stitch in the last stitch you crocheted before the loops. Cut the yarn and fasten.

Steg 6

Zipper
Now we will fasten the zipper. Measure how long your clutch is and add about 4-5 cm to the zipper before you cut off the right length (if you bought by the metre).

a. Put the runner on the zipper, see video.

b. Attach the zipper on both sides with a needle and thread so that there is an equal amount sticking out of the bag on each side. Fasten it two turns. Also attach extra to the end of the zipper so it becomes like a stop. Sew up and down over the zipper at the bottom where the runner should stop. Do the same at the top. Tuck the ends of the zipper into the bag.
Now your "clutch" is ready!
