Here's how to do it

The bag is made in two separate pieces, which are then crocheted together. Lastly, you'll crochet the handle. Since each side of the bag is worked individually, it's important to maintain the same tension on both sides. A good tip is to crochet both sides at the same time, for example, one round at a time. /Emma

Steg 1

Let’s start with the two sides of the bag.

Step 1: Make 2 sides

Begin with a magic ring.

Round 1: Chain 2, then crochet 7 double crochets into the magic ring. Tighten the ring by pulling on the yarn tail.

If you're unsure how to crochet a magic ring with double crochets, see the video below.
Note: In the video, the round is closed, but in this pattern, we’re working in continuous rounds, so do not close the round.

Round 2: Chain 2 and turn your work. (Note: You are not closing the ring or joining the round.) Crochet 2 half double crochets in each stitch from the previous round, starting in the second stitch. Including the 2 chains (which count as one hdc), you should have a total of 15 stitches in this round.

If you're unsure how to crochet half double crochets, see the video below.

Steg 2

Round 3: Chain 2 and turn your work. Crochet 1 half double crochet in the second stitch, 2 hdc in the next, then *1 hdc in the next, 1 hdc in the next, 2 hdc in the next* and repeat this pattern until the end of the round. Make the last hdc into the chain space from the previous round. You should have a total of 22 stitches.

Round 4: Chain 2 and turn. Crochet 3 half double crochets in the first stitch.
*Skip one stitch, make 1 single crochet in the next stitch. Chain 2 and crochet 3 hdc in the same stitch. Skip one stitch, make 1 sc in the next stitch.* Repeat this sequence 7 more times so that you have a total of 10 “c2c clusters”. In the 10th and final cluster, skip 2 stitches before making the last single crochet into the chain space.

If you're unsure how to crochet a single crochet, see the video below.

Steg 3

Rounds 5–7: Chain 2 and turn. Crochet 3 half double crochets in the first stitch. Make 1 single crochet in the chain space from the previous round.
*Chain 2, then crochet 3 hdc into the same chain space. In the next chain space: 1 sc, chain 2, 3 hdc*. Repeat this pattern across the round, and end with a single crochet in the last chain space. You should still have 10 “c2c clusters” in these rounds.

Round 8: Crochet 2 stitches into the next stitch to form a corner. Then continue with single crochets along the top edge to create a neat finish. We made 22 single crochets in total – 11 on each side. The exact number is not important, as long as both sides have the same amount.

Cut the yarn and fasten off securely. If you're unsure how to fasten off, see the video below.

💡 Remember to make two sides!

Steg 4

Step 2: Assembly

Choose the side that looks the nicest and place the two pieces right sides together, with the prettiest side facing up. Make sure you have the same number of stitches around on both pieces (we have 60).

Make a slip knot and start in a corner. Join the two pieces together using single crochets: Insert your hook only in the back loop of the front piece, and only in the front loop of the back piece.

Fasten off and cut the yarn.

If you're unsure how to make a slip knot, see the video below.

Steg 5

Step 3: Handle
Row 1:
Make a slip knot and attach it to the stitch to the right of the joining seam (see image 8). Crochet 1 single crochet into the right side of the seam,
then 1 single crochet into the left side of the seam, and finally 1 single crochet into the stitch to the left.

Rows 2–21: Chain 1 and turn.
Continue with single crochets, starting in the second stitch, and work 1 single crochet in each stitch so that you have 3 stitches per row. Chain 1 and turn at the end of each row.

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail — this will be used to attach the handle to the other side and to sew it together.

Attach the handle to the other side by “sewing” with your crochet hook or a large yarn needle. Make 2 stitches on one side of the seam and 2 stitches on the other side. Then continue sewing the handle closed along its length, so that it becomes round instead of flat.

Attach all yarn tail.

You are done!

Now let’s crochet a stylish bag! If you need support along the way, check out our simplified version of this pattern.

Step 1: Crochet 2 sides

Round 1: Make a MR. Chain 2, work 7 dc into the ring. Tighten the ring by pulling the yarn tail.

Round 2: Chain 2, turn your work. *hdc inc x8*. (15)

Round 3: Ch 2, *1 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x7 → (22 sts)

Round 4: *Ch 2, 3 hdc in same st, sk 1 st, sc in next st* x9, Ch 2, 3 hdc in same st, sk 2 sts, sc in ch sp. (40 sts)

Round 5-7: *Ch 2, 3 hdc in same st, sk 1 st, sc in ch sp* x10. (40)

Round 8: Inc, then sc along the upper edge. (22)

It doesn't matter much which stitches or the exact number, as long as it's equal on both sides and you're happy with the edge. Crochet in the starting yarn end here. Fasten off and cut the yarn.

Step 2: Assembly

Choose the side you like best and place them together, right sides facing each other. Ensure you have the same number of stitches around both pieces (60). Start in one corner. Join with sc, using the back loop only (bmb) on the front side and the front loop only (fmb) on the back side.
Fasten off and cut the yarn.

Step 3: Handle

Round 1: Make a slip knot and attach it to the stitch to the right of the seam. Crochet 1 sc in the seam on the right, 1 sc in the seam on the left, 1 sc.

Round 2-21: 1 ch. Start in the 2nd stitch, crochet 3 sc. Turn (3).

Fasten off the yarn, leaving a long end so you can attach the handle to the other side and also sew the handle together.

Assembly:

Attach the handle to the other side by "sewing" with the crochet hook or a large needle. Use 2 stitches on one side of the seam and 2 stitches on the other side. Continue sewing the handle so that it becomes round instead of flat.

Fasten off and you are done!
