Crochet sunscreen pocket “Disa”
Crochet sunscreen pocket to the car or van
Decorate your car with crocheted interior pieces for the sun visor. You will crochet beautiful flower squares with matching back pieces. Mix and match the colors however you like to fit your style. Adjust the size depending on how many squares you choose to make for your car. The finished size will be approximately 13 × 25 cm (adjustable). You will need Cotton Cloud yarn (we used the color "Cloud"), a 3.5 mm crochet hook (you can also use 4 mm if you want a slightly airier fabric and easier crocheting), and scissors.
Yarn amount: Approximately 60 g
Note: In this instruction, we use videos from our technique library along with images.

This is what you need:

Here's how to do it
Adjustable size depending on how many squares you want to make for width and height, as well as how large you want each square to be. The pattern is based on the basic flower square pattern and is worked with a small crochet hook. You can use a larger hook to make the squares slightly airier, or continue working additional rounds around the squares to increase the size. /Rebecca

Start
Begin by crocheting the flower squares. Make one square first and measure its size, then crochet as many squares as needed to fit your car’s sun visor. In the pictures, we show both 3 squares on some images and 6 squares on others.
You can choose whether to make two rows of squares, make your squares larger, or add extra rounds around the edges in the final step to increase the size by a few centimeters.
Once you have crocheted as many flower squares as needed, move on to the next step.
Flower square: (see the video at the bottom titled “Sunflower Square” if you need help). Crochet 3 or 6 squares depending on the size of your car’s sun visor.
We start by crocheting 14 squares. The squares will be about 13 x 13 cm in size depending on how hard you crochet.
Inner Ring
Start with color 1. Hold the yarn in your left hand. Twist the yarn around your fingers (left hand) three times. Use your crochet hook to go under the first two loops and hook the third with your crochet hook. Pick up the yarn again and pull under the two finger loops, hook the yarn onto the crochet hook and pull through. Now the loop on the crochet hook hold the inner ring together and you can proceed below.
Round 1: Ch 2 (this chain replaces the first half double crochet). After that, crochet 11 half double crochets in the inner ring.
A half double crochet is crocheted by taking yarn over your crochet hook and go down with the crochet hook into the inner ring, pick up yarn and pull through (you have three loops on your crochet hook), pick up yarn and pull through all three loops. You have now crocheted a half double crochet.
Crochet a total of 11 half double crochets plus a chain of two loops at the beginning. Finish by going down in the third loop you made at the beginning. Pick up yarn and pull through both loops directly. Leave 10 cm of yarn end and cut.
Round 2: Start by making a slip knot around your crochet hook. One way you can do this is to wrap the yarn around your index and middle finger and then pull the yarn up so that it creates a loop. Tighten around your crochet hook.
Go down the stitch between the first and second half double crochet, pick up the yarn and pull through both loops. Chain 2. Go down in the same stitch and crochet a double crochet but you should not do the last pull through i.e. you take the yarn over the crochet and go down with the crochet hook into the stitch, pick up yarn and pull through (you have 3 loops on your crochet hook), pick up yarn and pull through two loops (you have two loops left on your crochet hook). Do the same thing one more time so that you then have three loops on the crochet hook. Pick up yarn and pull through all loops. Chain 1. Now you have crocheted one “leaf”.
Yarn over and go down the next stitch and do the same thing. You don't have to chain 3 in the beginning but you crochet 3 "half" double crochets instead of Ch 3+ 2 "half" double crochets. Do this 11 times (don't forget a chain 1 in between). Finish by going down the 3rd chain of the first chain, pick up the yarn and pull through. When you're done, you should have 12 leaves.
Leave 10 cm of yarn end and cut off.
Round 3 - making the square shape
Hole 1: Make a slip knot around your crochet hook and start in a 'hole' (between two leaves) and chain 3. Then crochet 2 double crochets in the same hole.
A double crochet is crocheted by taking yarn over your crochet hook and go down with your crochet hook into the inner ring, pick up the yarn and pull through (you have 3 loops on your crochet hook), pick up yarn and pull through two loops, pick up yarn and pull through the last 2 loops. You have now crocheted a double crochet.
In hole 1 you have chain 3 and 2 double crochets.
Do not chain 1 between the double crochets.
Hole 2: Crochet 3 double crochets.
Hole 3: Now you should crochet treble crochets. Take yarn over your crochet hook twice (you have three loops) and go down in the hole and pick up the yarn and pull through. Yarn over again and pull through 2 loops. Yarn over and pull through two loops again and yan over one last time and pull through the last 2 loops. Do the same thing 2 more times. Chain 2, and then 3 treble crochets in the same hole. This is the first corner.
Repeat holes 1-3 three times more so you have four sides. Finish by going through the first stitch on the lap, picking up yarn and pulling through all loops. Cut off and fasten the yarn tails.
Fasten all the yarn tails. Tie the remaining tail in a knot around the last loop (or with another yarn end) on the backside of the square to prevent it from going up. Hide the tail by fastening it through a few closeby loops.
Join Your Squares
Crochet two squares together at a time along one side. Work slip stitches only through the outer loops (the loops farthest apart). Place the squares with the wrong sides facing each other.
You can join a single row of 3 squares or two rows with 3 squares in each row. The image below shows 6 squares, but the technique is the same if you are joining just 3 squares.
%20Steg%202%20bild%201%20.jpg)
Once you have joined the pairs of squares, join all the pairs together in the same way so that all 6 squares are connected.

Once all the flower squares are joined into a complete piece, continue with the next step.
Crochet the Border
Round 1: Start in one of the corners. Make a slip knot on your hook, pull the loop through a stitch in the corner, and secure it with a slip stitch.
From here, work a round of single crochet stitches all the way around the piece of joined squares, working only in the back loops of each stitch. If you are unsure which is the back loop only, see the video below.
Round 2: Begin by chaining 3, which counts as your first double crochet. Continue working double crochets all the way around, working only in the back loops.
When you reach a corner, add an extra double crochet—work two double crochets in the same stitch to create a rounded, flat corner.
Finish the round with a slip stitch, cut the yarn, pull the loop through, and tie a knot.

Crochet the Back Piece
Row 1: Chain a length equal to the width of your front piece. In the third chain from the hook, work your first double crochet. Continue working double crochets across the row.
Finish the row by chaining 3 and turn your work. If you are unsure how to make a chain, see the video below.

Rows 2 and Onward:
Work as many rows as you like for your back piece.
Finish by joining the back piece with single crochet stitches along the long sides. I left the short sides open, but you can decide how you want to handle them.

Crochet the Ties
Finally, crochet the ties. Place them wherever you like; I chose one for each corner.
Attach your yarn at a corner and chain as long as you want your tie to be. Cut the yarn and pull it through the last loop to create a knot. Make an extra knot for security and trim the yarn end.
Repeat for as many ties as you need.
Finish by weaving in and trimming all yarn ends. Done—well done!

Front Piece – Crochet Flower Squares
Start by crocheting your flower squares. Make one square and measure its size, then crochet as many squares as needed to fit your car sun visor. I chose 6 squares (2 wide × 3 long).
Once you have crocheted the number of squares you need, move on to the next step. Some images may show examples with 3 squares, others with 6. You decide how many you want depending on the size of your sun visor.
Instructions for crocheting the flower squares (see the video in the simpler version for help):
We’ll start by crocheting the motif square and work two different kinds of petals. These will be referred to as “Petal 1” and “Petal 2” throughout the pattern.
In the square, two different leaves will be crocheted. The leaves are described below and abbreviated as “Leaf 1” and “Leaf 2” in the pattern.
Leaf 1 (used only at the beginning of Round 2):
Ch 2. Work 2 partial dc in the same st: yo, insert hook in same st, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yo, pull through 2 loops (2 loops remain). Repeat once more (3 loops on hook). Yo, pull through all 3 loops. Finish with ch 1.
Leaf 2:
Work 3 partial dc in the same st: yo, insert hook in st, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yo, pull through 2 loops (2 loops remain). Repeat 2 more times (4 loops on hook). Yo, pull through all 4 loops. Finish with ch 1.
Start with the color you want in the center of your squares. Make 1 MR.
Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc), 11 hdc in MR, sl st in 2nd ch. Cut yarn and fasten off.
Change color.
Round 2: Attach yarn with 1 sl st in the first st of the previous round. Work “Leaf 1” in same st. Work “Leaf 2” × 11. Sl st in first st of the round. Cut yarn and fasten off. You should have 1 Leaf 1 + 11 Leaf 2 in this round.
Change color.
Round 3: Attach yarn with 1 sl st in a sp (between clusters) from the previous round. Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc in same sp. In next sp, 3 dc. Skip to next sp. Work 3 tr, ch 2, 3 tr (forms a corner).
*3 dc in next sp, 3 dc in next sp. In next sp work 3 tr, ch 2, 3 tr* × 3. Sl st in 3rd ch at beginning of round. Cut yarn and fasten off.
Join Your Squares
Join two squares at a time along one side. Work slip stitches only in the outer loops (the loops farthest from each other).
If you are joining more than one row: once you have joined the pairs, join all the pairs together in the same way.
When all the flower squares are joined into a single piece, continue to the next step.
Crochet the Border
Round 1: Attach the yarn in one corner. Chain 1 to start. Work a round of single crochet stitches in the back loops only around the entire piece of squares.
Round 2: Chain 3 (counts as your first double crochet). Continue working double crochet stitches in the back loops only around the piece.
When you reach a corner, add an extra double crochet by working two double crochet stitches in the same stitch to create a rounded, flat corner.

Finish the Border
Slip stitch to join, cut the yarn, pull through the loop, and knot.
Crochet the Back Piece
Row 1: Chain the same width as your front piece. In the 3rd chain from the hook, work your first dc. Continue working dc across the row.
Rows 2 and onward: Work as many rows as you like to reach the desired height for your back piece. Finish by attaching the back piece to the front piece along the long sides using sc stitches.

Crochet the Ties
Finally, crochet the ties and place them wherever you like. I chose one tie for each corner. Attach your yarn at the desired spot and chain as long as you want each tie to be. Repeat for as many ties as you need. Finish by weaving in and trimming all yarn ends. Done—great job!
