Crochet basket “Ruby” 2

Crochet a large basket for blankets, pillows, laundry or toys.

This basket is a great variant of “Ruby”. This technique is great if you want to crochet a large basket, for example as a laundry basket or as a decor basket for toys or blankets and pillows. This pattern creates a stable basket with a diagonal pattern. A tip is also to crochet large bottom with low side, then it fits well as a dog basket for a small dog. The pattern is easy to learn! You can make the basket of the size you like, from 2 kg of yarn you get diameter of about 40-42 cm and height of about 23-24 cm. The basket in the picture is 42 cm in diameter and 32 cm high. If you want to use the wooden base for the basket, it's great, look in our shop for the wooden base 40 cm.

Yarn Consumption: about 2,600 g to obtain a basket 42 cm in diameter and 32 cm high. Keep in mind that it all depends on how hard or loose you crochet.

Here's how to do it

This instruction has the same video as our basket “Ruby” All techniques are exactly the same, what differs is only extra turns at the bottom to make the bottom even larger. Here it is up to you how big you want your basket bottom. The basket is crocheted by first making the bottom ready, then crocheting a side warp that causes the basket to start going upwards. Then a row is crocheted on the wall and after that we start with the very technique “Goose foot stitch”. The basket in the picture is about 42 cm in diameter and only the bottom weighs about 600 g /Lizette

Steg 1

Get Started — The Inner Ring

Hold the yarn in your left hand. Twist the yarn around your fingers (left hand) three times. Use your crochet hook to go under the first two loops and hook the third with your crochet hook. Pick up the yarn again and pull under the two finger loops, hook the yarn onto the crochet hook and pull through. Now the loop of the crochet hook holds the double “inner ring” together and we can start on the first lap for the bottom part.

Steg 2

Bottom - First lap

Now we will start crocheting the first round on the bottom with single crochet. Go down with the crochet hook in the ring and hook the yarn and pull through, pick up the yarn again so you temporarily have two loops on the hook, pick up the yarn and pull through both loops. Do this another 7 times so that you have a total of 8 single crochet in the innermost ring. Round 1 is now complete!

Steg 3

Second lap

Now the bottom of the basket should grow in size and therefore we begin to add additional stitches. On this turn, we will make two stitches in each stitch from lap 1. Pass the crochet hook through both sides of the first stitch you made for the first lap and pull the yarn through. You now have two loops on the crochet hook. Grasp the yarn again and pull it through both loops. Now you have only one loop on the crochet and have crocheted the first stitch. On this lap we are going to make two stitches in each stitch so you go down in THE SAME stitch again and catches the yarn and pulls through so you temporarily get 2 stitches on the crochet hook. Then pick up the yarn again and pull through. You have now made two stitches in the same stitch. Continue in the same way round out, a total of 16 stitches on turn 2.

Steg 4

For the next round, continue to add extra stitches according to the following pattern (work as many rounds as you want to make the bottom as big as you want)

Round 3: Make two stitches in every other stitch (between these you only make one stitch as usual). In total you have 24 stitches on the row.

Round 4: Make two stitches in every 3rd stitch. You have a total of 32 stitches on the round.

Round 5: One stitch in each stitch - no increases on this round! You have a total of 32 stitches on the row.

Round 6: Make two stitches in every 4th stitch. You have a total of 40 stitches on the round.

Round 7: Make two stitches in every 5th stitch. You have a total of 48 stitches on the round.

Round 8: Make two stitches in every 6th stitch. You have a total of 56 stitches on the round.

Round 9: Make two stitches in every 7th stitch. In total you have 64 stitches on the round.

Round 10: One stitch in each stitch - no increases on this round! In total you have 64 stitches on the round.

Round 11: Make two stitches in every 8th stitch. You have a total of 72 stitches on the round.

Round 12: Make two stitches in every 9 stitches. In total you have 80 stitches on the round.

Round 13: Make two stitches in every 10 stitches. In total you have 88 stitches on the round.

Round 14: Make two stitches in every 11th stitch. In total you have 96 stitches on the round.

Round 15: One stitch in each stitch - no increases on this round! In total you have 96 stitches on the round.

Round 16: Make two stitches in every 12th stitch. In total you have 104 stitches on the round.

Once you are satisfied with the size, proceed to the next step - Bottom edge

Steg 5

Bottom edge

Look at the back of your work. You will see two loops that are close to each other as in the picture. Go through both with your crochet hook. Hook the yarn again and pull through both loops. Here you use exactly the same technique as before, but grab loops from the "inside" edge of the bottom to make the basket turn upwards. You will see that it will be like an edge at the bottom. Crochet around the entire bottom.

Steg 6

Now we will crochet the first row on the side so that the basket grows in height. Start by skipping a stitch and then you crochet two stitches in the same stitch. Skip the next one, then crochet two stitches in the same stitch again.

When you start the next row, crochet 2 stitches in the same stitch BUT you go down between the 3rd and 4th lines from the 4st lines in the row below. This means that you need to go down a little deeper to get in between the 3e and 4e lines. Crochet two stitches between the 3rd and 4th lines and then skip one stitch. Continue like this throughout the entire wall until you are satisfied with the height. You will always have the same number of stitches on the laps because you do as many doubles as you skip. When the basket is as high as you wish, then proceed to 'finish'.

Steg 7

Closing

Finish by cutting off the yarn, leaving a 5-10 cm tail. Tie the remaining tail in a knot around the last loop to prevent it from going up. Tighten and hide the tail by fastening it through a few neighboring loops. Do the same on the tail that was left from the inner ring.

Now your big basket is ready:)
