Crochet terry mat “Karin”
Crochet a beautiful terry rug in a zigzag pattern
Create a sleek and modern rug with a zigzag texture that fits perfectly in your home. This pattern allows you to crochet a soft, fluffy rug using MYO terry yarn. It is worked in a lovely zigzag shape that gives a lively look and elevates any room. With endless color combinations, it’s also easy to adapt to your home’s style. The rug is crocheted with MYO Froté (terry) yarn, and you will also need an 8 mm crochet hook, a yarn needle, and scissors. The rug can easily be adjusted to different sizes. We provide suggestions for two sizes: A smaller rug: approx. 60 × 45 cm and a larger rug: approx. 90 × 130 cm (we used the colors Chalk Green, Beige, and Natural White).
Yarn Consumption: Smaller rug: approx. 400 g total and larger rug: approx. 3 kg total
Please note that in this pattern, we use videos from our technique library together with images.

Here's how to do it
You can crochet your rug in several different colors if you like—hope you’ll give it a try!

Info before you start
The project is worked back and forth in rows. Each stripe consists of two rows in the same color.
This pattern is easy to adjust in size. One “wave” (one peak and one valley) equals 10 stitches. For example:
- If you chain 60 stitches, you will have 6 peaks
- If you chain 40 stitches, you will have 4 peaks, etc.
Size reference (the two versions we made):
- Small rug:
40 chains × 7 stripes (2 rows in the same color)
Approx. 60 × 45 cm
Yarn: 200 g blue, 175 g lavender - Large rug:
60 chains × 21 stripes
Approx. 90 × 130 cm
Yarn: 1 kg Chalk Green, 1 kg Beige, 1 kg Natural White
Pattern
Foundation chain:
Chain the number of stitches for the width you want in multiples of 10, plus 4 additional chains.
We will write the pattern based on the large size we made:
Chain 60 + 4
If you’re unsure how to make a foundation chain, see the video below.

Row 1:
Work 1 double crochet in the 4th chain from the hook.

*Then work 3 double crochet.
Now you will double 3 together . Do it like this:
- Yarn over, insert hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook)
- Yarn over, pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook)
- Yarn over again, insert hook into the same stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook)
- Yarn over, pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook)
- Yarn over again, insert hook into the same stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook)
- Yarn over, pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook)
- Yarn over and pull through all 4 loops

Work 3 double crochet.
Work (1 double crochet, chain 1, 1 double crochet) in the same stitch.

Repeat the sequence form * to the end of the row. After the last 3 double crochets, finish by making 2 double crochets in the last starting chain stitch.

Row 2:
*Work 3 chain stitches (counts as 1 double crochet) and 1 double crochet in the same stitch.
Work 3 double crochets.
Work 3 double crochets together.
Work 3 double crochets. Then, in the chain space, work 1 double crochet, 1 chain stitch, 1 double crochet.*
Repeat between *...* across the row until 1 stitch remains.
Finish by working 2 double crochets in the last stitch.
Complete the last double crochet of the row with the new color, then crochet over the yarn ends in the next row.
Change color if you like. See the video below if you are unsure how to do this.
Repeat Row 2 until the rug reaches your desired size.
We recommend starting with the darkest color and also finishing with the same color for a neat final look.
Video below shows how to work Row 2.
