Crochet basket “Ruby”

A sequel to our popular crochet basket

This basket is a variant of “Basket 2.0" which is made from the same yarn (EKO Braided Rope 5 mm and crochet hook 8 mm), but where the side looks a little different. This pattern creates a stable basket with a diagonal pattern. However, the pattern is still just as easy to learn and make! You can make the basket of the size you want, from a 1 kg roll you get max. size of 35 cm in bottom diameter and about 25 wall.

If you prefer to crochet the basket in EKO Medium, it thinks of yarn just as well. You can also use our wooden base for the pattern.

Yarn consumption: 900-1000 g (for the same size as in the video)

Steg 1

Get Started — The Inner Ring

Hold the yarn in your left hand. Twist the yarn around your fingers (left hand) three times. Use your crochet hook to go under the first two loops and hook the third with your crochet hook. Pick up the yarn again and pull under the two finger loops, hook the yarn onto the crochet hook and pull through. Now the loop of the crochet hook holds the double “inner ring” together and we can start on the first lap for the bottom part.

Steg 2

Bottom - First round

Now we will start crocheting the first round on the bottom with single crochet. Go down with the crochet hook in the ring and hook the yarn and pull through, pick up the yarn again so you temporarily have two loops on the hook, pick up the yarn and pull through both loops. Do this another 7 times so that you have a total of 8 single crochet in the innermost ring. Round 1 is now complete!

Steg 3

Second round

Now the bottom of the basket should grow in size and therefore we begin to add additional stitches. On this turn, we will make two stitches in each stitch from round 1. Pass the crochet hook through both sides of the first stitch you made for the first lap and pull the yarn through. You now have two loops on the crochet hook. Grasp the yarn again and pull it through both loops. Now you have only one loop on the crochet and have crocheted the first stitch. On this lap we are going to make two stitches in each stitch so you go down in THE SAME stitch again and catches the yarn and pulls through so you temporarily get 2 stitches on the crochet hook. Then pick up the yarn again and pull through. You have now made two stitches in the same stitch. Continue in the same way round out, a total of 16 stitches on turn 2.

Steg 4

For the next round, continue to add extra stitches according to the following pattern:

Round 3: Make two stitches in every other stitch (between these, just make one stitch as usual)

Round 4: Make two stitches in every 3 stitches

Round 5: One stitches  n each stitches  - no increases on this lap!

Round 6: Make two stitches in every 4 stitches

Round 7: Make two stitches in every 5 stitches.

Round 8: Make two stitches in every 6 stitches.

Round 9: Make two stitches in every 7 stitches.

Steg 5

Bottom edge

Look at the back of your work. You will see two loops that are close to each other as in the picture. Go through both with your crochet hook. Hook the yarn again and pull through both loops. Here you use exactly the same technique as before, but grab loops from the "inside" edge of the bottom to make the basket turn upwards. You will see that it will be like an edge at the bottom. Crochet around the entire bottom.

Steg 6

Side

Now we will crochet the first row on the side so that the basket grows in height. Start by skipping a stitch and then you crochet two stitches in the same stitch. Skip the next one, then crochet two stitches in the same stitch again.

When you start the next row, crochet 2 stitches in the same stitch BUT you go down between the 3rd and 4th lines from the 4st lines in the row below. This means that you need to go down a little deeper to get in between the 3e and 4e lines. Crochet two stitches between the 3rd and 4th lines and then skip one stitch. Continue like this throughout the entire wall until you are satisfied with the height. You will always have the same number of stitches on the laps because you do as many doubles as you skip. When the basket is as high as you wish, then proceed to 'finish'.

Steg 7

Finishing

Finish by cutting the yarn, leaving a 5-10 cm tail. Tie the remaining tail in a knot around the last loop to prevent it from unraveling. Tighten and hide the tail by attaching it through a few nearby loops. Do the same on the tail left from the inner ring.

Now your basket is ready:)
