In this instruction we will crochet a hanging basket “Nadine” in EKO Medium Tube yarn and the instruction is adapted for beginners. The basket is crocheted with a crochet needle 8 mm. In the pattern, you can choose between crocheting the suspension with a wooden ring or crocheting the hanging loop. The basket can also be crocheted in other Eko yarns, e.g. EKO Mini, Braided rope 5 mm or Braided rope 4 mm.

If you want to crochet a larger variant of this basket, there is a guide in the text which rows you need to add, these rows are not in the video but all the steps are the same as on both baskets but different number of stitches etc.

Steg 1

For this instruction you need a small piece of yarn, if you have a yarn end left from a previous project you can take it, otherwise start by cutting off a small yarn end of approx. 5 cm which we will use later.

Get started - the innermost ring

Hold the yarn in your left hand. Twist the yarn around your fingers (left hand) three times. Use your crochet hook to go under the first two loops and hook the third with your crochet hook. Pick up the yarn again and pull under the two finger loops, hook the yarn onto the hook, and pull through. Now the loop on the crochet hook holds the double inner ring together.

Steg 2

Bottom

Carefully loosen the "ring" from your fingers and pull the yarn you have around your left finger through the loop holding your crochet hook. Insert your crochet hook from the front through the large double ring that you are holding. Grab the yarn and pull it through. Now you have temporarily got two loops on the crochet hook. Join these two loops by hooking the yarn one more time around the hook and this time pulling through both loops. You only get one loop around the crochet hook and now you have made your first crochet stitch.

Go down with the crochet hook in the ring and hook the yarn and pull through, pick up the yarn again so you temporarily have two loops on the hook, pick up the yarn and pull through both loops. Do this another 5 times so that you have a total of 6 stitches in the innermost ring. Round 1 is now complete!

Steg 3

Second ronud

Now the bottom of the basket should grow in size and therefore we begin to add additional stitches. On this lap, we will make two stitches in each stitch from lap 1. Pass the crochet hook through both sides of the first stitch you made for the first lap and pull the yarn through. You now have two loops on the crochet hook. Grasp the yarn again and pull it through both loops. Now you have only one loop on the crochet and have crocheted the first stitch. Go down in THE SAME stitch again and catch the yarn and pull through so you temporarily get 2 stitches on the crochet hook. Then pick up the yarn again and pull through. You have now made two stitches in the same stitch.

Continue in the same way round out, a total of 12 stitches on turn 2.

Steg 4

For the next rounds, continue to add extra stitches according to the following pattern:
Round 3: Make two stitches in every other stitch (between these, just make one stitch as usual) (18 stitches in total)
Round 4: Make two stitches in every 3 stitches (24 stitches in total)
Round 5: Make two stitches in every 4 stitches (30 stitches in total)

If you want to crochet a larger variant on the basket, crochet two extra rows:

Extra round 1: Make two stitches in every 5 stitches (36 stitches in total)

Extra round 2: Make two stitches in every 6 stitches (42 stitches in total)
Tighten and hide the tail from the start by going under a stitch on the inside and tie a knot, then fasten it through a few nearby loops

Steg 5

Side
On the side, the stitches need to be counted more carefully so that the basket gets its drop shape. Here there will be different number of stitches, for example 30/42 stitches. The number after/ is the one that you follow if you crochet it major basket.

Round 6: Start crocheting 3 single crochet stitches in the same stitch. The 3 single crochet, crocheted in the same stitch, will be the ones that are at the top of the basket. Mark the middle of the three stitches with your little yarn end that you cut at the beginning. It is important that you keep track of which is the middle. Crochet 30/42 single crochet all the way around until you get to the stitch before the 'top-stitch' where your yarn end is. In total you have 32/44 stitches.

Round 7: Crochet 3 single crochet in the same stitch (the top stitch, the one you marked with the end of the yarn). Mark the 'new' middle stitch with your yarn end again and crochet 32/44 stitches until you are back in the stitch before the top stitch, which you have marked with your yarn end. In total, you have 34/46 stitches.

Round 8: Crochet 3 single crochet in the same stitch (the top stitch, the one you marked with the end of the yarn). Mark the middle stitch with your yarn end and crochet 34/46 stitches until you are back in the stitch before the top stitch that you have marked with your yarn end. In total you have 36/48 stitches.

Round 9: Crochet 3 single crochet in the same stitch (the top stitch, the one you marked with the end of the yarn). Mark the middle stitch with your yarn end and crochet 36/48 stitches until you are back in the stitch before the top stitch that you have marked with your yarn end. In total, you have 38/50 stitches.

Round 10: Crochet 3 single crochet in the same stitch (the top stitch, the one you marked with the end of the yarn). Mark the middle stitch with your yarn end and crochet 38/50 stitches until you are back in the stitch before the top stitch that you have marked with your yarn end. In total, you have 40/52 stitches.

Round 11: Crochet 3 single crochet in the same stitch (the top stitch, the one you marked with the end of the yarn). Mark the middle stitch with your yarn end and crochet 40/52 stitches until you are back in the stitch before the top stitch that you have marked with your yarn end. In total, you have 42/54 stitches.

If you crochet the larger basket, add two extra rows as below:

Extra Round 1: Crochet 3 single crochet in the same stitch (the top stitch, the one you marked with the end of the yarn). Mark the middle stitch with your yarn end and crochet 54 stitches until you are back in the stitch before the top stitch that you have marked with your yarn end. In total, you have 56 stitches.

Extra Round 2: Crochet 3 single crochets in the same stitch (the top stitch, the one you marked with the end of the yarn). Mark the middle stitch with your yarn end and crochet 56 stitches until you are back in the stitch before the top stitch that you have marked with your yarn end. In total, you have 58 stitches.

Steg 6

Option 1: 'regular basket', if you crochet the big one you go to option 2.

Round 12: Crochet 3 single crochet in the same stitch (top-stitch), marking the middle stitch with the end of the yarn. NOTE! Now the pattern changes. Crochet 19 single crochet. Now we will reduce the number of stitches - two stitches should turn into one. You do this by going down the next stitch and catching the yarn (you have two loops on the crochet), go down the stitch after and catch the yarn again, you have three loops on the crochet hook. Pick up the yarn and pull through all three loops. You have made a reduction, crochet one more reduction. Finish the round by crocheting 19 single crochet until you are back in the stitch before top-mesh. In total, you now have 42 stitches.

Round 13: NOTE! There are a lot of steps in this round. Crochet 3 single crochet in the same stitch (top-stitch), mark with your yarn end. Crochet 12 single crochet. Crochet a reduction - two stitches become one. Crochet 2 simple stitches and then a reduction. After that, crochet 6 single crochet and a reduction after that. Crochet 2 simple stitches and a reduction after that. Finish by crocheting 12 single crochet so you are in the stitch before the 'top stitch'. In total, you have 40 stitches.

Now you will make the choice whether you want a wooden ring as a suspension for your basket or if you want to crochet the loop for hanging.

Option 2: Large basket

a) Crochet 3 single crochet in the same stitch (top-stitch), marking the middle stitch with the end of the yarn. NOTE! Now the pattern changes. Crochet 23 single crochet. You have made a reduction, crochet five to decrease (six pieces in total). Finish the round by crocheting 23 single crochet until you are back in the stitch before top-mesh. In total, you now have 54 stitches.

b. NOTE! There are a lot of steps in this round. Crochet 3 single crochet in the same stitch (top-stitch), mark with your yarn end. Crochet 17 single crochet. Crochet a reduction - two stitches become one. Crochet 2 single crochet and then a reduction. After that, crochet 6 single crochet and a reduction after that. Crochet 2 single crochet and a reduction after that. Finish by crocheting 18 single crochet so you are in the stitch before the 'top stitch'. In total, you have 52 stitches in the yard.

c. NOTE! There are a lot of seps on this round. Crochet 3 single crochet in the same stitch (top-stitch), mark with your yarn end. Crochet 23 single crochet. Then crochet two reductions. Finish by crocheting 23 single crochet so you are in the stitch before the 'top stitch'.

Sometimes you may need to stretch the basket a little so that the stitches lie nicely.

In the next step, you will make the choice whether you want a wooden ring as a suspension for your basket or if you want to crochet the loop for hanging.

Steg 7

These choices you make no matter what size you crochet on the basket:

Alt. 1 with wooden ring: Place the wooden ring on the back of the basket (from where you look), with the top of the wooden ring aligned with the top of the basket. Now crochet two single crochet in the top stitch by going down the top stitch and through the wooden ring, catch the yarn and pull through. Catch the yarn again and pull through, now you have crocheted the wooden ring in the basket, crochet a total of two pieces in the wooden ring. Finish the turn by going down into the next stitch and picking up the yarn, pulling through both loops directly. Now go to 'finish'.

Alt. 2 crochet loop: Crochet a simple stitch in the top stitch. Then crochet 10 simple loose loops. Crochet a regular single crochet in the same stitch that you just went down into, that is, the top stitch. If you are satisfied with the suspension now, you finish by going down into the next stitch and pick up the yarn and pull through both loops directly. Now go to 'finish'.

If you want to crochet the pendant a little thicker, crochet a row with single crochet, also over the 10 loose loops. Crochet an extra single crochet before finishing you go down into the next stitch and pick up the yarn and pull through both loops straight away. This is recommended if you crochet it Big basket. Now go to 'finish'.

Steg 8

Closing
Finish by cutting off the yarn, leaving a 5-10 cm tail. Tie the remaining tail in a knot around the last loop to prevent it from going up. Tighten and hide the tail by fastening it through a few neighboring loops. Do the same on the tail that was left from the start (if you have not already crocheted it so it is hidden).

Hope you like your new basket:)

Crochet drop basket “Nadine”

Crochet a beautiful wall basket with or without a wooden ring

Nice crochet baskets can never be too many and with this instruction you can crochet a variant that you can easily hang on the wall!

Yarn consumption: Approx. 280-300 g in EKO Medium (for the big basket you need about 550 g)

Crochet drop basket “Nadine”
