Round Terry Mat “Selma”

Crocheting a round rug for the bathroom (or anywhere else) goes quickly with this instruction. The only thing you need to think about is how to add loops row after row, but we have explained this in this instruction!

In this instruction we show how to change color every 5 rounds when crocheting a round without adding stitches. You can decide the size of the carpet yourself. We recommend crochet hook size 10 or 12, but if you have size 8 at home, it will also work fine. In that case, remember to pull each stitch a little extra.

Yarn consumption: To crochet a rug with a diameter of 80cm, you need 1200g EKO Terrycloth. If you wish to make the carpet larger, you can buy more rolls, or mix different colors.

Difficulty: Beginner / Intermediate

Steg 1

Get Started: The Chain

There are two different ways to start the carpet, version 1 and version 2. Choose the way that suits you best.

Get Started (version 1): The Chain

Make a simple chain of 4 loops, which will become the inner ring for your rug. Close the chain and start crocheting around.

Lap 1: Then crochet two stitches in each stitch you have in the chain, so that you get 8 stitches in total to continue with. Then follow the schedule in step 2. A stitch is crocheted by going down the stitch, picking up yarn and pulling through. Pick up yarn again and pull through. Then follow the schedule in step 2.

Get Started (version 2): The Chain

Make a simple chain of 4 loops, which will be the inner ring of your rug. Close the chain and start crocheting in the round. Round 1, you crochet two stitches in each stitch you have in the chain, so that you have 8 stitches in total to continue with. Then you follow the schedule in step 2.

TIP: Before starting the first round: remember to crochet very loosely with this yarn, it makes handling a lot easier! Feel free to pull each stitch a little extra.

Steg 2

Now you crochet the rug from the inside out, following this pattern all the way. Color changes are of course optional and you can also make the stripes narrower by making more changes.

Round 2: Increase the stitch in every other stitch (=work a double crochet into every other stitch)

Round 3: Increase the stitch in every 3rd stitch

Round 4: Increase the stitch in every 4th stitch

Round 5: Increase the stitch in every 5th stitch

Round 6: Change color - no increase stitches!

Round 7: Increase the stitch in every 6th stitch

Round 8: Increase the stitch in every 7th stitch

Round 9: Increase the stitch in every 8th stitch

Round 10: Increase the stitch in every 9th stitch

Round 11: Increase the stitch in every 10th stitch

Round 12: Change color - no increase stitches!

Round 13: Increase the stitch to every 11th stitch.... and so on! :)

Steg 3

Finishing

When you are satisfied with the size of the rug, leave about 10 cm tail and cut the yarn. Then you can tie the tail in a nearby loop and pull it through a few loops next to it to hide it.

Congratulations - now you are done with your carpet!
