Crocheted tray “Barbro”

Serve your coffee with your very own crocheted tray “Barbro”.

With a wooden base, the tray gains both stability and saves time, which means that your project will be completed quickly. The tray can be crocheted in any size you want, in the video we use MYO's largest round wooden base (with 30 cm diameter), but you can also crochet a small or square one. Simply follow the steps in the instruction.

Yarn consumption: approx. 300 g (depending on how big and high you want to crochet your tray and how hard you crochet)

Here's how to do it

This tray is super easy to make! With a wooden base, the tray gains both stability and saves time, which means that your project will be completed quickly. We start by pulling the yarn through the holes, and then continue crocheting around. The holes are 8-10 mm in size, so you need to have a smaller crochet hook on hand (6-8 mm) when you make the first round - then you can continue crocheting with a crochet hook size 8 mm.

Steg 1

Round 1 - Wooden base

Tip: To crochet around the wooden base, use a smaller crochet hook (2 sizes smaller) than we will crochet with later to fit both yarn and hook in the holes. I use a 6 mm (later we crochet with 8 mm).

Crochet Technique: Single crochet

Fold the yarn in half, about 10 cm from the end of the turn, so you get a U-shape. Tuck your crochet hook into the hole where you want to start your lap, catch the yarn and pull through so you have a loop on the top of the wooden base. Hold both ends of the yarn and crochet two loops to get a start.

How to do: Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook (the long one is the one you will crochet with) and pull through the loop. Repeat one more time so you have a chain of two loops high. The chain counts as your first stitch.

Now you should crochet single crochets, one in each hole all the way around.

How to do: Tuck the crochet into the next hole, wrap the yarn around the crochet hook and pull up, wrap the yarn around the crochet hook again and pull through both loops. You've made a single crochet. Repeat all the way around until you get to the first chain.

When you get to the loop you crocheted first, finish with a slip stitch in the second loop of the chain.

Here's how to do it: Insert the crochet into the second loop, wrap the yarn around the crochet and pull through both loops at once. This is a slip stitch.

Steg 2

Round 2 -3

Change to crochet hook 8 mm.

Crochet Technique: Single crochet

Starting the round by making a chain of two loops high. This counts as your first stitch. Just like the previous row, crochet a single crochet in each stitch all the way round.

Finish in the same way with a slip stitch in the second loop of the chain you crocheted very first.

Steg 3

Round 4

Crochet Technique: Single crochets

You will need 4 needles/yarn tails to mark where the handles will be placed.

Start by measuring out where you want your handles. For reference, in the video we made my 8 stitches wide. So place 2 needles/yarn tails for each handle so you know where they start and end.

Like the previous round, the round begins by making a chain of two loops high. This counts as your first stitch. Crochet single crochet until you reach your first mark for your handle.

When you reach your mark where your handle should start, you crochet a chain. The chain should have as many loops as the number of stitches you have on your handles. Thus: if your markings are 8 stitches wide, you crochet a chain of 8 loops.

Attach the chain where you placed your second marker where the handle ends, fasten with a single crochet. Continue crocheting single crochets until you reach your next marks for the second handle, repeat the same process and then continue crocheting single crochets until you are back at the start.

Finish in the same way with a slip stitch in the second loop of the chain in the beginning.

Steg 4

Round 5

Crochet Technique: Single crochets

This is the final round. Like the previous round, the round begins by making a chain of two loops high. This counts as your first stitch. You crochet single crochets all the way around. When you get to your handles (the chains you made), crochet single crochets around the chain.

Finish in the same way with a slip stitch in the second loop of the chain you crocheted in the beginning. Cut the yarn, pull through the loop and tie a knot and hide the yarn tail by pulling the end of the yarn back and forth between the stitches and preferably down one row on the inside of your tray.

Done, good job!
