Macramé Flower Pot Hanger “Tyra”

Tie an Macramé Flower Pot Hanger that has a nice, twisted detail on top

This flower pot hanger “Tyra” is quick to tie but still looks very professional. The instruction is made for those who are beginners. You determine the length of the hanger yourself and can then adjust the size to the flowerpot you have. We recommend EKO Braided Rope 5mm for this project, as the thickness of the yarn provides stability for the ampel.

This is what you need:

Steg 1

How to get started

In this instruction, we make an ampel using the technique of macramé, which you can adjust to the size of your pot.

Start by cutting 3 ropes that are 4 meters long, and 1 rope that is 5 meters.

Fold the 4m long ropes in half and thread into your wooden ring.

Take the 5m long rope and fold it in half and also thread it into the ring as well. Now cut a new rope that is 80 cm long.

Steg 2

“GAthering knot“

Now it's time for a gathering knot.

Lay the rope as in the picture and create a loop at the top, closest to the wooden ring. Then start at the bottom by twisting the whole "bundle" around 6 times until you get to what is now a loop. The easiest way to understand is probably if you watch our video.Thread the end of the rope into the loop. Then pull both ends so that the loop itself ends up inside the knot. This way you lock the knot. Now you can cut off the rest of the ropes that stick out.

Steg 3

Right-Facing Square Knot is the name in English and unfortunately we have not found a better translation into Swedish of this knot than above.

You only need to learn this knot once because you keep making it precisethe same knot over and over again. The rope twists by itself, you will notice it gradually.Don't over-tighten the knots, you may struggle to get the twist and you won't get the look you might want.

Take the ropes that are 5 meters long (2.5m folded in the wooden ring), these are the ones you will work with. Watch the video for best understanding.Make this knot 20 times.

Square Knot/Macrame Knot “Right-Facing Square Knot”

Steg 4

Gathering knot No. 2

Under these 20 knots, you must make another gathering knot, the same as above. For this, you need another rope that is 80cm

Steg 5

Lower part

Now it's time to create the part where the pot will hang. TIP: Try to find a place at home where you can hang your flower pot hanger, a wall, or a clothes rack. It becomes easier to tie if the hanger can hang straight down.

From the top knot, measure down 60cm. Divide the ropes into 4 pairs. Make a single knot on each of the four pairs. Make sure they are aligned when hanging.

Steg 6

The Last Knot

In order for the pot not to fall out, we need to make a final knot. Take all the ropes and make a single big knot out of them

Then cut all the ends to the length you desire.

Hope you are happy with your new hanger :)
