Bucket Hat with sunflowers “Ingegerd”
Crochet a Beautiful Hat with Sunflower Squares
This hat is a fun and easy project that’s sure to brighten up any outfit — whether you’re heading to the beach or strolling through the city. It’s also a quick make when crocheted with our soft EKO Nano yarn. In addition to EKO Nano, you’ll need a 6 mm crochet hook. We’ve used the colors Nature White, Rusty Yellow, and Almond.
Yarn Consumption: Approximately 220 g Nature White, 85 g Rusty Yellow, and 30 g Almond. Note that yarn consumption may vary depending on your tension.
In this pattern, we include both photos and technical tutorial videos.

This is what you need:
Here you can directly purchase the material for the product. Please note that the instruction is digital and appears here on the page (no written instruction).

Here's how to do it
The hat consists of 5 squares with sunflower motifs which are then assembled together using any technique. In the instructions, slip stitch are used to join the squares with each other. Finally, the brim of the hat is crocheted. /Johanna K

SUNFLOWER SQUARE – CENTER
Start crocheting with the color Almond.
Begin with a magic ring. If you’re unsure how to make a magic ring, see the video below.
The video also shows you how to crochet chain stitches and half double crochets.

Round 1:
Chain 2 (counts as 1 hdc). Then crochet 15 half double crochets into the magic ring.
Finish the round with a slip stitch into the 2nd chain you made at the beginning. Pull the yarn tail to tighten the ring and close the circle. Fasten off the yarn.
You should have a total of 16 half double crochets in the round.
If you’re unsure how to make a slip stitch or how to fasten off, check the video below.

In Round 2, we’ll crochet “two or three double crochet stitches worked together” (also known as clusters). See the instructions below.
Two-leg cluster (used only at the beginning of the round):
*Yarn over, insert the hook into the stitch, yarn over again and pull through the stitch. Yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook.* Repeat from * to * one more time. Then yarn over and pull through all three loops remaining on the hook.
Standard cluster (three legs):
*Yarn over, insert the hook into the stitch, yarn over again and pull through the stitch. Yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook.* Repeat from * to * three times (you will have four loops on the hook), then yarn over and pull through all four loops remaining on the hook.
Round 2 (Rusty Yellow): Attach the new yarn with a slip stitch into any double crochet from the previous round. Chain 3. Crochet one two-leg cluster in the same space as the chains. Then crochet one standard three-leg cluster. Chain 1. Crochet one standard cluster into each stitch around, separated by chain 1 in between.
At the end of the round, you should have: 1 two-leg cluster at the start, 15 standard three-leg clusters and 16 chain spaces between them.

Round 3 (Nature White): Attach the new yarn with a slip stitch into any chain space from the previous round.
Chain 3 (this counts as your first treble crochet). Crochet 2 more treble crochet stitches into the same space. If you’re unsure how to make treble crochets, see the video below for guidance.
Next, you will crochet the first side of the square:
Crochet 3 double crochet stitches into the next chain space.
Then crochet 3 half double crochet stitches into the following chain space.
Next, crochet 3 double crochet stitches into the next chain space.
This forms the first side of the granny square (see image below).
If you are unsure how to crochet a double crochet stitch, see the video below.

Next comes the first corner of the square: In the same chain space, crochet 3 treble crochet stitches, then chain 2, and 3 more treble crochet stitches.
This creates the first corner of the granny square.

Now repeat the side pattern + corner pattern two more times to create the next two sides and corners of the granny square.

Crochet the last side of the square the same way as the other sides.
When you reach the last corner, crochet 3 treble crochet stitches, then chain 2, and join with a slip stitch into the third chain of the initial chain 3 you made at the beginning of the round.

Fasten off the yarn.
Make a total of 5 squares following the instructions described above.
Joining the Squares
There are many techniques to join squares together. In this instruction, we have chosen to join the squares using single crochet stitches.
If you’re unsure how to crochet single crochet stitches, see the video below.
Place two squares together with the right sides facing out (wrong sides against each other).
Attach the yarn between the corners of both squares. Crochet single crochet stitches along the edge of the squares by inserting the hook through the stitches of both squares.
When you reach the end of the square (the corner), cut the yarn, fasten off and weave in the ends.

Continue by joining the next square to the already joined squares and fasten off.

A total of 4 squares should be joined together to form a circle.
Note: Do not cut the yarn after joining the first and last squares together. Continue with the same yarn to attach the final square, which forms the top of the hat.

Hat Brim
Attach the yarn to any corner of one of the squares.
Round 1: Crochet one half double crochet in each stitch all around the hat. Join with a slip stitch in the second chain of the chain stitches you made at the beginning of the round.

Round 2: Chain 2. Crochet 5 half double crochet stitches in the next 5 stitches. Crochet 2 half double crochet stitches in the following stitch. Crochet 6 half double crochet stitches in the next 6 stitches. Crochet 2 half double crochet stitches in the following stitch.
Repeat this pattern around the entire round. It’s okay if it doesn’t come out even or ends with 6 stitches at the end.
When you reach the last stitch of the round, finish with a slip stitch in the second chain you made at the beginning of the round.

Round 3: Repeat Round 2.
When you’re finished, fasten off, cut the yarn, and weave in the ends.
Your hat is now complete! :)

Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook — repeat 3 more times, yarn over and pull through remaining 4 loops on hook.
SUNFLOWER SQUARE
Start with Almond and make a MR.
Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc). Work 15 hdc into the MR. Join with sl st into the 2nd chain of the beginning chain. Pull the tail to close the ring. Fasten off and cut the yarn (16).

In round 2, we will crochet clusters. See the description above if you are unsure how to do this.
Round 2 (Rusty Yellow): Join new yarn with 1 sl st in any st from previous round. Ch 3. Work a 2-leg cluster in the same space as the ch. Work a cluster in the next st, ch 1 — rep around. Total: 1 cluster with 2 legs + 15 clusters.

Round 3 (Nature White): Join new yarn with 1 sl st in any ch-1 space from previous round. Ch 3 (counts as first dc). Work 2 dc in the same space.
