Crochet baskets bunny & bear
Crochet nice baskets with animal motifs, for example, for the children's room
This pattern is adapted for beginners so we go through all the steps in the video. In this instruction we will cover two different techniques for the ears, so you can either make a bear or a rabbit out of your crochet basket, it may be a little trickier to crochet the bunny ears but watch the video and test! The baskets are crocheted in EKO Braided Rope 5mm and crochet hook 8 mm and will be about 15-17 cm in diameter depending on how hard you crochet.
Yarn consumption: about 450g
This is what you need:
EKO Braided rope 5mm | 1000g
EKO Braided rope 5mm is ideal for macramé work such as amples, bags, cord guards etc., but also for crocheting.
Köp produktHere's how to do it
In this instruction we will crochet a basket with rabbit ears or bear ears, using the yarn EKO Braided rope 5mm. In the instruction you will see when the patterns differ and when it is time to choose which motif you want to make.
GET STARTED - the innermost ring
Hold the yarn in your left hand. Twist the yarn around your fingers (left hand) three times. Use your crochet hook to go under the first two loops and hook the third with your crochet hook. Pick up the yarn again and pull under the two finger loops, hook the yarn onto the hook and pull through. Now the loop on the crochet hook holds the double inner ring together and we can start on round 1.
BOTTOM - First round
Now we will start crocheting the first round on the bottom with stitches. Go down with the hook in the ring and hook the yarn and pull through, pick up the yarn again so you temporarily have two loops on the hook, pick up the yarn and pull through both loops. Do this another 7 times so that you have a total of 8 stitches in the innermost ring. Round 1 is now complete!
BOTTOM - Second round
Now the bottom of the basket will grow in size and therefore we start adding extra stitches. On this round we will make two stitches in each stitch from round 1.
Pass the hook through both sides of the first stitch you made for the first round and pull the yarn through. You now have two loops on the hook. Grab the yarn again and pull it through both loops. Now you only have one loop on the hook and have crocheted the first stitch. On this round we will make two stitches in each stitch so you go down in the SAME stitch again and catch the yarn and pull through so you temporarily have 2 stitches on the hook. Then you pick up the yarn again and pull through.
You have now made two stitches in the same stitch. Continue in the same way round out, a total of 16 stitches on round 2.
BOTTOM - The following round
For the next round, continue to add extra stitches according to the following pattern:
Round 3: Make two stitches in every other stitch (between these you only make one stitch as usual). In total you have 24 stitches on the row
Round 4: Make two stitches in every 3rd stitch. You have a total of 32 stitches on the row.
Look at the back of your work. You will see two loops that are close to each other as in the picture. Go through both with your crochet hook. Hook the yarn again and pull through both loops. Here you use exactly the same technique as before, but grab loops from the inside edge of the bottom to make the basket turn upwards. You will see that it will be like an edge at the bottom. Crochet around the entire bottom. You should have a total of 32 stitches on the row.
Now we will continue crocheting the side so the basket grows in height. We will now crochet in each V. You do exactly as before but instead of going down into the hole from the round before you go down a little deeper in the middle of the stitch which forms a V.
Crochet a total of 8 rounds for bunny ears or 9 rounds for bear ears. In total, you should have 32 stitches on each round.
BUNNY EARS
Now we are going to crochet the ears of the bunny, if you would rather crochet the bear, go to step 9.
Now it is important to get all the stitches in the right place. If it´s difficult, look at the video instead.
- Begin crocheting 10 stitches in all V´s.
- Then crochet 6 loops.
- Skip the first loose loop and work a stitch in loop number 2. Work a total of 5 stitches until you are down to the edge of the basket again.
- Crochet a stitch in the same stitch as the last stitch on the edge (in the same hole as you crocheted the 10th stitch in point a).
- Now crochet 5 stitches in the following V´s
- Crochet a stitch in the next V and then crochet 6 loose loops.
- Skip the first loop and work in loop number 2. Work a total of 5 stitches before you are down to the edge of the basket again.
- Crochet a V stitch in the same stitch as the last stitch on the edge (in the same hole as you crocheted the 10th stitch in point f).
- Crochet 15 stitches in all V´s until you have finished the round.
Now crochet so-called Waistcoat stitches. Go down into the V and pick up the yarn, pull both through immediately. Crochet 11 pieces until you are at the bottom of the ear. Now we are going to crochet around the ear and it is important that you follow the instructions below, so that the ear takes its shape.
1 . We will crochet up the ear. There are 5 stitches on the first page, don't miss the first one!
2 . In the first stitch, you crochet a single stitch.
3. Then crochet 3 half double crochets by picking up yarn (so you have two loops on the hook), go down into the next stitch and pick up yarn and pull through so you have three loops on the hook. Pick up yarn and pull through all three. Do this a total of three times.
4. Crochet a single stitch.
Now we will crochet on the other side of the ear. There are also 5 stitches, check so you can see them.
5. In the first stitch, crochet the following: a single stitch. Then you crochet 2 single loose loops. Now you will crochet a stitch in the first loose loop you crocheted (you skip the first loose loop). Crochet a single stitch in the same stitch as the first stitch in this point.
6 . Crochet a single stitch.
7. Then crochet 1 half double crochet. Pick up yarn (so you have two loops on the hook), go down into the next stitch and pick up yarn and pull through so you have three loops on the hook. Pick up yarn and pull through all three.
8 . Crochet two single stitches in the last two stitches on the ear.
Now the first ear is ready!
9. Crochet 7 slip stitches. Go down into the 'V' and pick up the yarn, pull straight through. Crochet until you are at the bottom of ear 2. Now we are going to crochet the other ear and it is important that you follow the instructions below, so the ear takes its shape.
10 . We will crochet up the ear. There are 5 stitches, don't miss the first one!
11 . Crochet two single stitches.
12 . Crochet a half double crochet. Pick up yarn (so you have two loops on the hook), go down into the next stitch and pick up yarn and pull through so you have three loops on the hook. Pick up yarn and pull through all three.
13 . Crochet a single stitch.
14. In the last stitch, crochet the following: a single stitch. Then you crochet 2 loops. Now you will crochet a stitch in the first loop you crocheted (you skip the first loop). Crochet a regular stitch in the same stitch as the first stitch in this point.
Now we will crochet on the other side of the ear. There are also 5 stitches, check so you can see them.
15. Crochet a single stitch in the first stitch.
16 . Then we will crochet 3 half-double crochets. Pick up yarn (so you have two loops on the hook), go down into the next stitch and pick up yarn and pull through so you have three loops on the hook. Pick up yarn and pull through all three. Do this a total of three times.
17. Crochet a single.
18 . Crochet 16 slip stitches in the rest of the stitches on the round
19 . Finish by cutting the yarn, leaving a 5-10 cm tail. Tie the remaining tail in a knot around the last loop to prevent it from unraveling. Tighten and hide the tail by attaching it through a few nearby loops. Do the same on the tail left from the inner ring.
If you have a yarn end of a different color, you can embroider a V as a nose. It is fine to use the crochet hook for this. If you want inspiration, please take a look at the video.
BEAR´S EARS
After you have crocheted 9 rounds with V stitches, we start on the round where we crochet the bear ears.
1. It is important to get all the stitches in the right place. If it's difficult, watch the video.
2. Begin crocheting 10 slip stitches in all 'V's, go down into the next 'V' and pick up the yarn, pull both through immediately.
3 . Then crochet 6 double crochets in the same stitch. This time you go down in the next hole instead of in the next 'V' (we will not crochet in this 'V'). You crochet a double crochet by picking up yarn (so you have two loops on the hook), go down to the next stitch and pick up yarn and pull through so you have three loops on the hook. Pick up yarn and pull through two loops, pick up yarn again and pull through the last two loops. Do this a total of 6 times in the same stitch.
Now the first ear is ready!
4. Crochet 6 slip stitches in the next 'V'
5. Then crochet 6 double crochets in the same stitch. This time you go down in the next hole instead of in the next 'V' (we will not crochet in this 'V'). Do this a total of 6 times in the same stitch.
Now the second ear is ready!
6. Crochet 14 slip stitches in all 'V's until you have finished the round.
FINISHING
Finish by cutting the yarn, leaving a 5-10 cm tail. Tie the remaining tail in a knot around the last loop to prevent it from unraveling. Tighten and hide the tail by attaching it through a few nearby loops. Do the same on the tail left from the inner ring.
If you have a needle and thin cotton yarn at home, you can embroider a nose on the bear basket. Watch the video for inspiration.
