Crochet vest “Hedvig”
Crochet your own vest “Hedvig”
With this instruction you can learn how to crochet a nice and fashionable vest in our yarn EKO Nano Tube yarn and crochet hook 6 mm (or 7 mm). The pattern is beginner-friendly and easy to follow. It comes in four different sizes so you can choose if you want to crochet a larger size to get it oversized.
Yarn consumption: About 350-400g (size S)
This is what you need:
Here's how to do it
This pattern is crocheted flat, you start by crocheting the bottom, and then from there, you crochet the front and back pieces. If you want the vest to be slightly oversized, you can crochet a size larger than intended. It is easy to test from the first round how big the vest will be on you, crochet the number of loops for the size you have chosen and hold it around the bust. The vest is intended to be an open model, i.e. not completely closed at the front. In the pattern, size S is crocheted and when the number of loops/stitches is indicated, size S is the main size. Loops/stitches for the other : S - approx. 74 cm M - approx. 82 cm L - approx. 90 cm XL - approx. 100 cm
Row 1
Start by making a slipknot and then crochet 65 (72/79/88) loops.
For the first row, you should crochet half double crochet . So, wrap the yarn one turn around the crochet hook, stick the needle down into 3 loops from your crochet hook, catch the yarn and pull up. You now have three loops about your crochet hook, then catch the yarn again and pull through all three loops at once. This is a half double crochet . Now crochet a half double crochet in each loop row out. Finish by crocheting two loops.
You should have 63 (70/77/86) stitches on your lap and the same number of stitches on all turns for the entire bottom section.
Row 2
You should now crochet another row of half double crochet.
Wrap the yarn around the needle, stick the needle into the second loop belonging to the small chain you just made and crochet your first half double crochet there. Continue crocheting half double crochet row out. Finish by crocheting 2 loops and turn over your work.
Row 3
Now you will crochet a row of double crochets.
Start by twisting the yarn one round around the needle, insert the needle into the first loop (the one belonging to the first chain on the round), catch the yarn and pull up so you have 3 loops around the crochet hook. Catch the yarn again and pull through the first two loops. Catch the yarn a second time and pull through the last 2 loops. Crochet the rows out and finish with 2 loops. Turn your work around.
This is one piece, so 2 rows of double crochet and then one row of double crochet. Crochet this sequence in 3 rounds and finish with a final row, number 10, crocheting half double crochets to prepare for the next part. Follow the schedule below. Do not cut the thread when you are done with row number 10!

A tip is not to cut the thread. We will now crochet in the shoulder.
The shoulder - see video 44:29
Start by making a loop with your yarn, fold the yarn so you get a U-shape, and pull through the stitch you are going to start crocheting with your crochet hook and make a new loop. Or if you haven´t cut the thread from where you last crocheted, continue from the loop you have.
You will now crochet the shoulder together with slip stitches in the back loop. Remember that you crochet on the inside of the vest in case you have knots somewhere that need to be hidden.
So dive with the crochet hook only into the back arches of your stitches, the ones that are now closest to each other when you hold the front/ back piece against each other. Catch the yarn and pull through all the loops at once. Continue with this until your shoulder section is attached. Don't cut the yarn when you're done, we'll keep crocheting from there!
Continue crocheting along the edge with double crochets until you reach your other shoulder. Crochet the shoulder in the same way as the previous instruction. Finish with a loop and again do not cut the thread if you have yarn left to crochet with!
Crochet edging around the vest - see video 51:34
Now you will crochet single crochets all the way around the armhole. There is no right or wrong here, I dive in with the needle where there is room and stitch count doesn´t matter. Crochet all the way around and finish with a slip stitch in the last stitch. Cut the yarn and pull through the loop to make a knot. One way to hide the yarn end is on the inside of the vest between the stitches, loop the crochet hook between the stitches and pull the yarn end in so it is hidden.
Repeat in the same way crocheting single crochets all around the vest where you haven´t done it, I found it easiest and neatest to start at the shoulder, crochet all the way around the other armhole and then in the same way around the entire outer edge. Simply fold the thread end to make a U-shape, pull that through the stitch where you start and then crochet a loop. Then you crochet your single stitches all the way around and finish with a slip stitch in the last one. Cut the thread and pull through the loop to make a knot. Hide the thread in the same way as you did before.
Now your vest is ready, Hooray! Good workk
