Crochet dress “Solveij”
Crochet this gorgeous dress suitable for all occasions!
Crochet the finest dress of the summer for the beach, wedding, summer party, festival or for your AW on the town. This pattern is adapted for everyone, even if you are a complete beginner. The dress is a variation on our popular top “Rutveij” so if you want a matching top and dress, both designs are available on our website. All you need is EKO Nano and a 7 mm crochet hook. The color in the video is “Chalk Green”.
Yarn Access: 1-2 rolls depending on the size and length. 1 roll is enough for a short dress (depending on the dimensions) and 2 rolls for a longer dress.
This is what you need:
Here's how to do it
The dress is crocheted in one piece, you start at the bottom of the back and crochet the dress as long as you wish. When you are satisfied with the length, crochet the shoulder part. Then proceed to crochet the front of the dress. Finally, connect the sides with each other. Please share your pictures of your dresses:) /Rebecca
Number of stitches on the chain for size:
XS - 46 (23 treble crochet wide)
S - 50 stitches on your chain (25 treble crochet wide)
M - 56 stitches on your chain (28 treble crochet wide)
L - 62 stitches on your chain (31 treble crochet wide
XL - 68 stitches on your chain (34 treble crochet wide)
Hint! Unsure about the size? Measure with the chain where you are widest, for example across the bust/bust. The chain is half the measure of the circumference of your garment.
Keep in mind that measurements are approximate as our way of crocheting may vary depending on how firm or loose you crochet.
Step 1: Start by making a slip knot. You do it like this: wrap the yarn about two fingers so that the threads cross each other, then pull the yarn through the loop and tighten. You now have a slip knot.
Then crochet a chain with as many stitches on the chain as for the size you want to crochet your garment.
How to crochet a chain: from your slip knot you should now crochet a chain. So put the crochet into the slip knot and tighten the yarn slightly, catch the yarn with your crochet hook and pull through the loop, so continue until you have the right number of loops on your chain.
(Note: the loop around your crochet hook does not count as part of the chain's number).
Step 2: Now you should crochet single crochet.
You start crocheting in the second stitch from your crochet hook.
Place the crochet hook into the stitch, catch the yarn and pull up so you have two loops around your crochet hook. Catch the yarn again and pull through both loops. You have now made a single crochet. Continue making one in each stitch on the chain.
Finish with an chain stitch and turn your project around.
Step 3: Now you should crochet treble crochet + chain stitches.
You will crochet in every other stitch in your row.
Start by crocheting a chain of 4 chain stitches, this one counts as the treble crochet.
Skip one stitch and continue crocheting in the next.
Now you wrap the yarn two turns around your crochet hook, insert the crochet hook into the next stitch on your row, catch the yarn and pull up so you have 4 loops around your crochet hook - catch the yarn again and pull through the first two loops. Catch the yarn again and pull through the next two. And one last time, pull through the last two loops.
You have now made a treble crochet. Then crochet a chain stitch so you create a space between your stitches. Skip a stitch in the row and continue in the next.
Crochet a treble crochet + chain stitch in every second stitch the row out.
The last treble crochet is crocheted in the third loop you crocheted on the previous round. Here you insert the crochet hook into the other, remember that you should always have a stitch between your treble crochet
Continue crocheting rounds with treble crochet until you reach the desired length of your front piece.
Step 4: Now shoulders + neckline should be crocheted.
You decide for yourself how wide you want to make your neckline and shoulders. For reference, I chose 7 treble crochet wide. So measure and put two marks (e.g. needles or pieces of yarn) where you want your shoulder sections to be.
Start as in the previous row by crocheting a chain of 4 loops, then treble crochet until your first mark. Then crochet a chain with as many loops as the width of your neckline is, thus the number of treble crochet + chain stitches that the gap is.
Where your second mark is for the next shoulder section, continue crocheting treble crochet. So you knit the yarn two turns around the crochet needle as usual, tuck it into the stitch where your mark is and crochet the row out.
Finish with chain stitches and turn over.
Step 5: Now you should crochet the back.
You crochet this in exactly the same way as you crocheted your front piece. You can crochet it the same length or longer depending on the style you want. Count the number of laps with treble crochet so you know how many laps you have to work with.
Step 6: Finish the back piece by crocheting a row of single crochet
Start crocheting an chain stitch (if you did not finish the last lap with one). Tuck the crochet hook under the chain into the space between your treble crochet. Crochet two single crochet stitches between each treble crochet the row out.
Finish by cutting the yarn, about 10 cm, make one last chain stitch and pull the yarn through all the way and tighten like a knot. Hide the end of the yarn between your stitches on the inside of your garment.
Step 7: Now the dress should be crocheted together in the sides.
Here you decide for yourself how deep the armholes you want and whether you want to crochet the sides completely or leave gaps.
Mark where to start and end. Cut a piece of yarn that is about twice as long as the length of where you are going to crochet the side.
Start by making a slipknot on your yarn. Then tuck the crochet hook down through both the front and back from where you start crocheting, it doesn't matter if you start from the top or bottom. Here I crochet in the same way as “sewing”, like pulling through the yarn instead of crocheting, for example, single stitches (see video for clarification).
Finish by making an chain stitches, cut the yarn and pull through all the way and tighten so you get a knot. Hide the end of the yarn between your stitches on the inside.
It's done! Now you can finally wear your Solveij.
