Steg 1

Step 1: Collar

This collar is crocheted in the round and you can easily adjust the size yourself according to your measurements.

Round 1:

Start by making a slipknot. Wrap the yarn around two fingers so the yarn crosses each other, then pull the yarn through the loop you just made and tighten, you have now made a slipknot.

Insert the crochet hook into your running knot, and tighten it by pulling the yarn. From here you will crochet a chain, start by wrapping the yarn around your crochet hook, and pull through the loop. You have made a loop, continue crocheting loops until you reach the desired length of the chain, you decide the number of loops for your size. Simply measure the size of your collar by holding the chain around your head, it's okay if it´s a little tight, the collar will be slightly stretchy when it´s finished.

Steg 2

Rounds 2 - 24:

Now the chain must be crocheted together so that you get a ring. Start by crocheting the first and last loop together, remember to double check that the chain has not twisted. Once you have both of your loops on your hook, crochet together with a slip stitch, wrap the yarn around the hook and pull through both loops. Then wrap the yarn around your hook again and crochet another loop to prepare for the next step.

Now you will crochet single crochet. Start by inserting the crochet hook into the same loop that you crocheted together your chain, wrap the yarn around your crochet hook and pull up so you have two loops around the crochet hook, then wrap the yarn around the crochet hook again and pull through both loops, you have now made a single crochet. Tip: use something to mark your first stitch on the round as a guide, such as a needle or yarn end.

Then crochet single crochets, one in each loop of your chain until you have crocheted the round. When you get to the end of the round, remove the marker if you used one, insert the hook into the first stitch of the round and finish with a slip stitch, wrap the yarn around the hook, and pull through both loops. Finish by making a loop to prepare for the next round.

You now crochet as many rounds as you want until you reach the desired height of your collar, for reference, 20 rounds are crocheted in the video and the collar is folded in half. You decide for yourself whether you want a double or single collar.

When you have reached the desired height of your collar, finish your last round with a slip stitch, then crochet a loop, but do not cut the yarn unless you are going to change the color of your front and back piece.

If you change the color:

Cut the yarn, make a knot by pulling the yarn through your loop, and tighten. Then fold your new yarn end to make a U shape. Insert the crochet hook into your first stitch where you just finished the round, catch the U-shaped yarn end, and pull through with the crochet hook as if you were crocheting a loop. Then crochet another loop.

Recommendation is to first crochet a round with single crochets of your new color to get a nice transition before starting on the front/back piece.

Steg 3

Step 2: Front and Back Piece

Start by placing a mark, such as a pin, at half the width of the collar. It doesn´t matter if you have an uneven number of stitches on your round and the front or back piece is one stitch wider.

First, the front piece:

Insert the crochet hook into the first stitch of the round, the same one you finished with a slip stitch, and crochet your first single crochet here. Then crochet a single crochet in each loop of your row until you reach your marker. Finish the row by crocheting an extra loop and turn your work. You will crochet rows back and forth until you reach the desired length of your front piece. When you are happy with the length of your front piece, cut the yarn, about 5 cm, crochet a final loop and pull the yarn through and tighten to make a knot.

Back piece:

We repeat the same process as for the front piece.

Start crocheting in the first stitch after the front piece is finished, it doesn´t matter which side you start from.

Now you are going to crochet with a new piece of yarn, this is how you start: Fold the yarn end so that you get a U-shape, insert the crochet hook into your first stitch, catch the loop of the yarn you just folded and pull through, wrap the yarn around your crochet hook and pull through to make a new loop.

Now crochet your first single crochet in the same loop you just worked in. Continue crocheting single crochets until you reach the other side where your front piece ends. Finish the row by crocheting an extra loop and turn your work.

Crochet the desired length of the back piece just like you did for your front piece, but don´t cut the yarn when you´re done.

Steg 4

Step 3: Edge

Now a nice edge can be crocheted around both the front and the back piece. It is easily done with single crochets, one in each stitch all the way around.

Starting from the corner where your back piece ended:

Round 1: Start by crocheting two single crochets in the first stitch, as an increase to get a nice rounded edge. Then you crochet a single stitch for each row along both long sides for the front and back piece. When you get to the next corner, you also crochet two double crochets in the corner stitch. Repeat the same process for each corner until you have crocheted the round.

Finish your first round by crocheting a slip stitch in the first stitch of the round, crochet a loop and continue on the next round.

Steg 5

Round 2-4

For rounds 2-4, the increase for the corners will be two single crochets in two stitches/corner. So, start your round by crocheting two single crochets in the first loop, then two single crochets in the next loop. Then crochet a single crochet in each stitch until you reach your next corner and here crochet two single crochets in the two corner stitches. Repeat until you reach the end of your round, finishing the round using the same principle as your first round.

You decide how wide you want your edge to be, I chose 4 rounds, you crochet until you feel satisfied.

Finish your last round by making a slip stitch, then crochet a loop, cut the yarn and pull through, and tighten to make a knot. Then hide your yarn end by pulling it through the stitches back and forth with your crochet hook along the edge and finish by hiding the last bit through a stitch one row down, cut the yarn and you´re done!

Well done - now you´re done and ready to try on your collar! :)
