Scarf “Caroline”

Crochet a lovely scarf in Granny squares /sunflower squares with MYO Basic Wool yarn

This instruction is made for beginners and therefore suitable for everyone! Crocheting granny squares and sunflower squares is not as difficult as one thinks and in this instruction we guide you through all the steps. You choose the colors and size of the scarf yourself to make it unique, just the way you want it. All you need is MYO Basic Wool and crochet hook 6 or 7 mm.

Yarn Consumption: The scarf in the picture is made with 16 squares. We recommend at least 24 squares to get it in a longer variant. For 24 squares, about 4-5 skeins of yarn is needed. The yarn consumption depends on how long you want your scarf and how tight you crochet. The color used for this instruction is beige.

Note that we in this instruction uses videos from out technique library. If you are looking for a full instruction video for a crocheted vest, we suggest the  scarf Astrid.

Here's how to do it

Crochet a soft and lovely scarf in granny squares, flower squares or both! The variant in the picture is crocheted as a shorter variant, but if you want a longer scarf you need about 24 squares. Of course, it can be made even longer (or wider!). If you want to make it longer, you crochet more than 24 squares and if you want to make it wider, you have three rows of squares instead of two, as in the picture. Hope you like your new soft scarf! /Salli

Steg 1

You start by crocheting as many squares as you want for your scarf. You can vary between granny squares and sunflower squares or choose to do only one of them. Here below in step 1 you will see Granny squares and in step 2 you will find sunflower squares. For reference, the scarf in picture has 16 squares. You can choose to crochet everything in one color or in several different colors. In the photo, the scarf is shown in one color - beige.

Granny squares

Round 1: Crochet a magic ring and in the ring you start with 3 chain stitches, then you crochet 2 double crochets. This will be the first double crochets pair. Then crochet two chain stitches. Repeat this (3 double crochets+1 chain stitches) a total of 4 times. Finish with a slip stitch in the third chain stitch from the start.

Round 2: Change color. Start in one hole and in each hole you crochet 3 double crochets, 2 chain stitch, 3 double crochets, this forms the corners. Do not crochet a chain stitch between the corners. Finish with a slip stitch in the third chain stitch from the start.

Round 3: Change color. Start in a hole where you crocheted 2 chain stitches in. In this hole (the corner) you must crochet 3 double crochets, 2 chain stitches, 3 double crochets. The next hole will be a hole between the corners, here you crochet 3 double crochets. Then crochet the next corner in the same way as the first and continue in the same way. The corners are therefore crocheted with 3 double crochets, 2 chain stitch and 3 double crochets in the same hole. Between the corners you crochet 3 double crochets. Finish with a slip stitch in the third chain stitch from the start.

Rounds 4-5: Crochet in the same way as round 3, all corners are crocheted with 3 double crochets, 1 chain stitches and 3 treble crochets in the same hole and between the corners you crochet three double crochets. Finish in the same way as above. In the cardigan in the picture, we have used the same color on the last round of all squares.

If you do not change the color, you can crochet slip stitches until the start of the new round.

Fasten all the yarn tails and cut off the ends.

Steg 2

Sunflower square

If you have not crocheted sunflower squares, see the video below.

Round 1: Crochet a magic ring. Then chain 3, replacing the first half double crochet. Then crochet 11 half double crochet. In total, you have 12 half double crochets (including the chains that replace a double crochet). Finish by crocheting a slip stitch in the last chain from the start. Cut and fasten off.

Round 2: Start with a new color if your wish. Attach the yarn to a stitch and chain three. We will make clusters of three double crochets. After you have chained your 3, you crochet a double crochet but skip the last pull through. Do the same one more time so that you have two half-finished double crochets +3 chain stitches. Last, pull through all the loops. Chain one.

In the next stitch, you do not need to start with chaining 3, but instead crochet three half-finished double crochets (skipping the last pull through).

Repeat: crochet a cluster in each stitch with one chain in between. Finish by crocheting a slip stitch in the last chain from the start. Cut and fasten off.

Round 3: Start in a hole. Chain three, replacing the first double crochet. Crochet two more double crochets. Go to the next hole and crochet three double crochets. Go to the third hole and crochet (in the same hole) three treble crochets, chain two, three treble crochets (this forms a corner on the square).
Each side consists of three holes, repeat these three holes so you have four sides on the square. In the first and second hole, crochet three double crochets (no chain in between) and in the corner crochet (in the same hole) three treble crochets, chain two, three treble crochets.

Fasten off.

Steg 3

Assembly

Once you have crocheted all the squares that you need for your scarf, we will crochet them together. There are different techniques for crocheting squares together. See below video for guide to the technique used in this instruction.

The squares are placed as shown below. The picture shows 16 squares but of course you can have more squares.

Crochet them together two and two and last, crochet all together on the middle of the scarf, see below pictures and marking in blue. Crochet in the stitches closest to each other. So in the back loop only of the first square and the front loop only of the back square.

Steg 4

Finishing round around the scarf

Finish by crocheting a round of single crochets around the scarf. You start with a slip knot. If you are unsure how to make a slip knot, see below video.

Go down a corner and then crochet a single crochet into each stitch. In the corners, crochet three single crochet. If you are not sure how to crochet a single crochet, see below video.

Continue until you are back at start. Cut off and fasten the yarn ends. If you are not sure how to fasten the yarn ends, see below video.

Good job with your scarf, we hope you are happy with the result!
