Carpet halfmoon “Jackie”
Crochet a halfmoon mat that will be nice on the terrace or balcony.
This rug is easy to crochet and is great to decorate your outdoor room, terrace or balcony with. If you crochet in jute, you can use it outdoors. This rug can also be crocheted in our other EKO yarns such as EKO medium. If you crochet with JUTE medium, you will also need a 6 mm crochet needle. In the video, the color “brown” is used.
Yarn Access: 420 g in JUTE medium
This is what you need:
Here's how to do it
The carpet is crocheted in double crochet and all the turns follow the same pattern. You choose how big you want to crochet your rug.
Innermost Ring
Hold the yarn in your left hand. Twist the yarn around your fingers (of the left hand) three times. Use your crochet hook to go under the first two loops and hook the third with your crochet hook and pull under the two finger loops, hook the yarn on the crochet hook and pull through. Now the loop on the crochet hooks together the double “inner ring” and we can start on row 1.
First row
To start the first round of stitches, start by making two single loops, these count as the first double crochet.
Note! Do not crochet too tightly in this pattern. If you find it difficult to get a straight edge at the bottom, it can sometimes be worth crocheting three loops at the end of each row.
Now we're going to make double crochet: Take the yarn over the crochet hook and go down with the crochet hook in the ring you just made, pick up yarn and pull through (you now have 3 loops on the crochet hook), pick up yarn and pull through 2 loops (you have two loops left on the hook), pick up the yarn one last time and pull through the last two loops. You have now crocheted a double crochet. Crochet another 4 double crochet.
You should have 5 double crochet plus the chain of 2 loops (as you did at the beginning). Now we will finish row 1 by crocheting two loops and turn the work. Row 1 is now complete!
Row 2
Now the rug will grow in size and therefore we start adding extra stitches. You crochet a double crochet in the first stitch so that double crochet and the first two loops form two double crochets in the same stitch (so you skip the two loops that count both as turning loops and as the first double crochet).
Then you crochet two double crochets in each stitch. Remember that the last stitch is the last of the two loops you crocheted on the previous round. You now have a total of 12 stitches. Finish the round with two loops and turn the work.
Continuation
Continue crocheting all rows according to the pattern below. Keep in mind that all rows begin with crocheting a double crochet in the first double crochet (so you skip the two loops that count both as turning loops and as the first double crochet). You end all rounds by crocheting two loops and turn.
Row 3: Make two double crochets in every other double crochet (in between these you only make one double crochet as usual). In total, you should have 18 double crochets on the lap.
Row 4: Make two double crochets in every 3rd stitch. In total, you should have 24 double crochets on the lap.
Row 5: Make two double crochets in every 4th stitch. In total, you should have 30 double crochets on the lap.
Row 6: Make two double crochets in every 5th stitch. In total, you should have 36 double crochets on the lap.
Row 7: Make two double crochets in every 6 stitches. In total, you should have 42 double crochets on the lap.
Row 8: Make two double crochets in every 7th stitch. In total, you should have 48 double crochets on the lap.
Row 9: Make two double crochets in every 8th stitch. In total, you should have 54 double crochets on the lap.
Row 10: Make two double crochets in every 9th stitch. In total, you should have 60 double crochets on the lap.
Row 11: Make two double crochets in every 10 stitches. In total, you should have 66 double crochets on the lap.
Row 12: Make two double crochets in every 11th stitch. In total, you should have 72 double crochets on the lap.
Row 13: Make two double crochets in every 12th stitch. In total, you should have 78 double crochets on the lap.
Row 14: Make two double crochets in every 13th stitch. In total, you should have 84 double crochetson the lap.
Row 15: Make two double crochets in every 14th stitch. In total, you should have 90 double crochets on the lap.
Row 16: Make two double crochets in every 15th stitch. In total, you should have 96 double crochets on the lap.
Row 17: Make two double crochets in every 16 stitches. In total, you should have 102 double crochets on the lap.
For reference, the rug is approx. 84 cm long and 41 cm high after row 17. It weighs approx. 400 g.
If you want a larger rug, continue crocheting:
Row 18: Make two double crochets in every 17th stitch. In total, you should have 108 double crochets on the lap.
Row 19: Make two double crochets in every 18th stitch. In total, you should have 114 double crochets on the lap.
Row 20: Make two double crochets in every 19th stitch. In total, you should have 120 double crochets on the lap.
Row 21: Make two double crochets in every 20th stitch. In total, you should have 126 double crochetson the lap.
Row 22: Make two double crochets in every 21st stitch. In total, you should have 132 double crochetson the lap.
Row 23: Make two double crochets in every 22nd stitch. In total, you should have 138 double crochets on the lap.
Continue more rounds if you want the mat even bigger, use the same technique as above.
Cut the yarn, finish with a loop and attach the yarn to the back of the rug. So turn the rug over and take the yarn under a loop and make a knot. Then hide the yarn end under nearby loops.
Now your carpet is ready :)
