Crochet top “Rutveij”
Crochet an airy sweater with the yarn EKO Nano, together with the creator Rebecca who has the account @maskrosdrommar on Instagram.
You can also make this sweater into a dress!
The sweater is a cropped, oversize, hole-patterned sweater with three-quarter sleeves.
The pattern is crocheted with Eko Nano Tube and with a 6 mm crochet hook. The pattern is crocheted flat and then sewn together at the end.
Yarn consumption: approx. 550g for size S. For a dress you need 2 rolls.
This is what you need:
Here's how to do it
You can see the measurements of the shirt by size in the diagram below:
Keep in mind that measurements are approximate as our way of crocheting can vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. If you want an even airier sweater, you can crochet with a 7 mm crochet hook
S: Width: 46 cm Length: 41 cm Sleeve length: approx. 30 cm
M: Width: 51 cm Length: 45 cm Sleeve length: approx. 30 cm
L: Width: 56 cm Length: 49 cm Sleeve length: approx. 34 cm
XL Width: 61 cm Length: 54 cm Sleeve length: approx. 34 cm
Part 1
Start by making a loop and thread around your crochet hook, this is your first stitch. Then catch the yarn with the crochet hook and pull through your loop to make a chain stitch.
Crochet chain stitches so that you have a total of 51 stitches on your chain.
Number of chain stitches for size:
M - 57 chain stitches on your chain
L - 63 chain stitches on your chain
XL - 69 chain stitches on your chain
Part 2
Now we will crochet single crochets. Note: don´t forget to hide the end of the yarn here for a nice finish.
From the second loop counting from your hook, put the hook down through the loop and catch the yarn, pull the yarn through the loop and you now have two loops around your hook.
Catch the yarn again and then pull the thread through both loops. You have crocheted your first single crochet.
Now crochet a single crochet in each loop of your chain. You should have a total of 49 single crochets when you are ready for size S. These stitches will be the width of your sweater.
Number of single stitches for size:
M - 55 single crochet
L - 61 single crochet
XL - 67 single crochet
Tip! Not sure about the size? Measure with the chain where you are widest, for example over the bust, hold it from armhole to armhole on your shirt and see if you have the desired width. If you want more or less air, increase or decrease the pattern.
Part 3
Now we will crochet double crochets + chain stitch
Turn your project over so that you have the first stitch in your hand and the chain is lying to the left (all the way to the right if you crochet left-handed).
- Start by crocheting four chain stitches (loops), this will be your first double crochet on the round.
- Then wrap the yarn two times around the crochet hook, skip a stitch on the chain and insert the crochet hook into the third loop. Catch the yarn and pull through so you have four loops around the hook.
- Catch the yarn again and then pull through the first two loops.
- Catch the yarn a second time and pull through the next two loops.
- Catch the yarn a third time and pull through the last two loops. You have now crocheted a double crochet.
- Finish by making an chain stitchsome text
- Continue making double crochet + chain stitch in every other stitch on your chain until the round is complete. You should have a total of 25 double crochets in width on your row for size S.
Remember that a round always ends and starts with a double crochet.
- Continue making double crochet + chain stitch in every other stitch on your chain until the round is complete. You should have a total of 25 double crochets in width on your row for size S.
When you have finished your round, turn your project over and place the yarn behind the hook, repeat the process and crochet the next round with double crochet + chain stitch.
See the diagram below for the number of double crochet in width and lap high / per size.
Number of double crochet in width for size:
M - 28 double crochet
L - 31 double crochet
XL - 34 double crochet
Number of turns for high of each size:
S/M - 13 rows with double crochet
L/XL - 15 rows with double crochet
This will be the front of your shirt!
Part 4
Now we will crochet the neckline
- You start by putting markings, for size S you count six double crochet in from both outer edges.
- Then crochet six double crochets
- After this, you crochet 28 chain stitches (loops like a chain)
- Then wrap the yarn two times around your hook and insert the hook into the stitch where you made your marker and crochet the last double crochets. For size S, crochet six double crochets.
Number of double crochet for size:
M - Count and crochet 7 double crochets in from the side - crochet 30 chain stitches on your chain
L - Count and crochet 8 double crochets in from the side - crochet 32 chain stitches on your chain
XL - Count and crochet 9 double crochets in from the side - crochet 34 chain stitches on your chain
You have now crocheted the neckline opening.
Part 5
Now you will crochet the back of the shirt. Here we repeat the same process from part 3. You should crochet the same number of rows of double crochet high as you crocheted before the neckline, so your sweater will be the same length in the front as in the back.
Part 6
Now you will finish off and crochet the waistband at the back.
Here you crochet two single stitches between each double crochet.
- Start by crocheting a chain stitch
- Then you insert the crochet hook under the chain, catch the yarn and make a tight stitch around the chain.
- Crochet a total of two double crochets between each double crochet.
- Finish by cutting off the yarn, approx. 6 cm end, and pull the yarn through the last single stitch.
You can hide the end when you crochet the sweater together at the end.
Part 7
Now it's time to crochet the sleeve.
Start by laying your project flat. We will count and crochet along the long sides.
Start from the waistband and make a mark at the beginning of double crochet 7 for all sizes. This is where your sleeve will start. Do the same from the other side/waistband and here too put a mark at the beginning double crochet 7. This will be the width of your sleeve.
Number of rows of double crochet for size:
S/M - 15 rows/double crochet wide for size
L/XL - 19 rows/double crochet wide for size
Time to crochet:
- Start by taking the end of your yarn in your hand, about 10 cm up on the yarn, fold it in half so you get a U-like shape.
- Stop your U-shaped loop under double crochet 7, that is the double crochet we will now start crocheting around. Insert the hook into the loop, hold both yarns and catch the yarn (not the yarn end) with the hook and crochet a single crochet around the double crochet. This is your first single crochet.some text
- Crochet a total of 3 single crochets in width around each double crochet.
Number of single stitches per size:
S/M - 45 single stitches
L/XL - 57 single stitches
Your first round is done - now we're going to crochet double crochets.
- Start by crocheting four chain stitches (loops), this will be your first double crochet on the round.
- Then wrap the yarn two times around the crochet hook, skip a stitch on the chain and insert the crochet hook into the third loop. Catch the yarn and pull through so you have four loops around the hook.
- Catch the yarn again with the crochet hook and then pull through the first two loops.
- Catch the yarn a second time and pull through the next two loops.
- Catch the yarn a third time and pull through the last two loops. You have now crocheted a double crochet.
- Finish by making an chain stitch
- Continue double crochet + chain stitch in every other loop of your chain.
Number of double crochets for size:
S/M - 23
L/XL - 29
- Crochet another 6 rows with double crochets for a total of 7 rows, this is the length of your sleeve. You can of course choose the desired length yourself, if you want to make it shorter or longer!
Repeat the same process on the other side for your other sleeve
Part 8
Now you will crochet the sweater together.
- Fold your sweater in half (choose which side is the wrong side, if you have any knots that need to be hidden, then fold so the wrong side is now facing out)
- Measure out a piece of thread that is about twice the length from the waistband, along the entire side of the shirt and all the way out to the sleeve end. Always good to cut a bit extra!
- You can choose how you want to do it here, I sew the sweater together with the crochet hook. You do this easily by starting with a fixed stitch at the bottom at the waistband/sleeves, then using the crochet hook to thread the yarn through every second loop along the entire outer edge. If you have a thick needle, it works just as well. You can of course choose to make single stitches all the way if you prefer, then it will be a different look that can also be a detail.
Good job, the shirt is now ready!
