Crochet a case for your airpods

A quick and fun crochet project to do during your lunch break, on the bus or on the couch at home. In four simple steps and as many colors as you like. With this instruction, you can learn both how to crochet small granny squares and how to attach them to become an AirPods case. If you have leftover yarn lying around at home, this is a perfect project to use it for. Stylish and practical, can of course be used for more small things you need to keep track of in the bag! In the video, MYO Basic wool and a 6 mm crochet hook are used.

Yarn Access: about 15 g (depending on how hard you crochet)

Steg 1

Step 1

Start by making a running knot. You do it like this: Wrap the yarn around two fingers so that the yarn crosses each other, then pull the yarn through the loop you just made and tighten, you have now made a running knot. Leave about 7-10 cm yarn end, better with a little too long than too short, this will be used later.

Now you will crochet a chain. Do this: Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook and pull through the loop, here you have the first loop. Repeat until you have 4 loops in your chain.

Now the chain is crocheted together into a circle, fasten the first and last loop with a slip stitch. Do this: insert the crochet hook into the first loop of your hook so that you have both the last and first loop of the chain around the crochet hook. Catch the yarn and pull through both loops at the same time, now you have attached with a slip stitch.

Steg 2

Step 2

Now you are going to crochet with the half-double crochet technique. This round consists of 3 half double crochets + 1 loop (chain stitch) / corner.

Start by crocheting a chain of 3 loops, this counts as your first half double crochet.

Here´s how to make a half double crochet: wrap the yarn around the crochet hook, insert the crochet hook, catch the yarn with the crochet hook and pull up so you have 3 loops around the crochet hook. Catch the yarn again and pull through all three loops at the same time. You have made a half pole.

Crochet one more so you have a total of three for your corner. Finish with a loop (chain stitch) and continue with the next corner, i.e. three double crochets + 1 chain stitch. Tip: hide the yarn end while crocheting but leave some sticking out, it can be used later.

End the round with a slip stitch, you use the 3rd loop of the first chain you crocheted at the beginning. Cut the thread and pull through the loop to make a knot.

Now, if you need and want, you can pull the yarn end and close the middle hole more.

Steg 3

Step 3

Change color/yarn. This round is also crocheted using the half double crochet technique. A corner consists of 3 half double crochet + 1 loop + 3 half double crochet + 1 loop.

Start the round in one of the corners, i.e. in a space. I find it easiest to start where I haven´t finished with a knot, but you start exactly where you want.

Start like this: Fold the yarn in half so you get a U shape, insert the crochet hook where you want to start crocheting, catch the yarn (your U) and pull up to make a loop, catch the yarn again and pull through the loop. Tip : hide the yarn end while crocheting.

Crochet 2 more loops to make a chain of 3 loops, this chain counts as your first half double crochet.

Now the first corner is crocheted. Crochet 2 more double crochets, just like the previous round, then make a loop and crochet 3 more half double crochet in the same corner so that you get a total of 6 stitches. Finish with a loop before moving on to the next corner.

Dive down with the crochet hook in the next corner, crochet 3 half double crochet + 1 loop + 3 double crochets + 1 loop.

Continue like this until you reach the lap. End the round with a slip stitch, it is crocheted in the 3rd loop of the chain you made first, cut the thread and pull through the loop to make a knot.

Steg 4

Stage 4

Change color/yarn. This round is crocheted using the single crochet technique.

Start like this: Fold the thread in half so you get a U shape, insert the crochet hook where you want to start crocheting, catch the yarn (your U) and pull up to make a loop, catch the yarn again and pull through the loop. Crochet another loop so you have 2 loops on the chain.

Now crochet 1 double crochet in each stitch around the edge. Do this: Insert the hook into the next stitch, catch the yarn and pull up so you have 2 loops around your hook, catch the yarn again and pull through both loops. You have made a solid stitch. Continue crocheting one in each loop around the round. Remember that you also crochet a single stitch in the spaces, i.e. around the loop in each corner and between each corner.

Finish the round with a slip stitch, you use the 2nd loop of the first chain you crocheted at the beginning. Cut the thread and pull through the loop to make a knot.

Repeat the process and crochet one more square so you have two!

Steg 5

Step 5

You decide for yourself if you want to change the color or continue with the same for this last step. This round is crocheted using the slip stitch technique only in the outer loops of the loop.

Now we will crochet the two squares together. Put the squares on top of each other. You start crocheting in one of the corners, remember to leave one side open. You therefore crochet together 3 out of 4 sides.

Start like this: Fold the thread in half so you get a U-shape, in one of the corners, insert the crochet hook under the two outer loops of your squares (see video for further description). Catch the yarn (your U) and pull up to make a loop, catch the yarn again and pull through the loop.

Insert the hook under the next two outer loops and crochet a slip stitch. Tip : hide the yarn end while crocheting. Continue until you reach your last corner, don't forget to leave one side open.

When you reach the last corner, crochet a few more slip stitches along the edge to reach the center of the side. Crochet a chain that will be the band for your case, you decide how long you want. For reference, I crocheted 20 loops on my chain.

Fold the chain in half, secure with a slip stitch in the stitch on the other side. Finish by crocheting slip stitches the row out, cut the thread and pull through so you get a knot. Hide the yarn end by threading the yarn back and forth between the stitches.

Turn your case inside out and cut any visible threads.

The chain can be used as a closure by threading it through the gap on the window.

Done, good job!
