Crochet pot holder “Ulla”
New to crocheting? Learn to crochet a classic potholder!
MYO´s crocheted pot holder, thanks to its durable material, can be used both under the pot and for handling hot things in the kitchen. This project is perfect for beginners who want to learn the basics of how to crochet. The pot holder is very durable and when it gets too dirty, you can just wash it fresh again (machine wash 40 degrees).
Yarn consumption: For 2 pots, one roll EKO Medium 330 g is enough, but if you want to make more or have more color options, we recommend buying a 1000 g roll.
This is what you need:
ECO Medium Tube yarn
The medium-thick variant of our tube yarns for crochet, made of 80% recycled cotton
Köp produktHere's how to do it
Get started
Start by making a simple loop around your crochet hook. One way to do this is to lay the yarn 1.5 turns around your fingers and then pull the “tail” through from the back, so that the loop unfolds when you pull it. Leave about 5 cm of tail.
The Chain
Continue to adjust the size of the loop around your crochet. Use the crochet hook and take through the yarn (the part that comes from the string) and make a chain of 15-20 loops, depending on the size of the pot you want to make. The chain is one side of the pot holder.
Row 2
When you are happy with the length of the chain, it is time to crochet backwards. Jump over the loop that is in your crochet and go through the one that comes after. Take the yarn through so that you get two loops on your crochet hook, then combine these two by taking the yarn one more way through the two loops, this is called single crochet. Continue until you reach the end of the chain.
Once you've crocheted an entire row, add an extra loop (just bring the yarn through) before turning your work and continuing with the third row.
Row 3 & Continuation
Again, jump over the first loop that holds your crochet hook. Look at your pot holder from above - you will see that the loops form two “lines”. Go through them both with your crochet hook. As with the previous row, take the yarn through so that you can easily get two loops on your crochet hook, then take the yarn one more way through the two loops. Now you continue to do this until you are happy width the size of your pot holder.
Attention! Do not forget to leave a free loop at the end of each row, before moving on to the next row. Continue until the pot holder is the size you want.
Remember
- Remember to add an extra loop at the end of each row!
- Keep an eye on the side of your work, so that it stays straight. You can also count the number of stitches to make sure you have the same number at all times. If the side becomes uneven, it is likely that you either forget to leave a free loop at the end or you crocheted to far.
- If the size is not good, do not hesitate to unravel and change.
Crochet around the side
To get a nice edge for your pot holder, you can crochet a round around it. Pick up the yarn from the side, as shown in the pictures, and continue around the entire pot. In the corners, you can crochet two stitches in the same corner.
When you return to the first corner, you can make a small loop to be able to hang the pot holder, for example, above the stove. Crochet about 8 loose loops and finish by simply tying this “chain”. Lay about 5 cm of yarn that you can then use by pulling it through some loops on the edge of your work.
Congratulations - now you're done with your pot holder.
