Here's how to do it
These trivets are super easy! You make two equal parts that you then put together. So, just get started and decorate the tables:) /Lizette

We start by crocheting two African Flower squares.
If you feel unsure along the way, there is a video below showing all the steps for the square, BUT we do not do round 5 in the video. Skip that round in the video and follow round 5 in step 2 instead.
Round 1 (color 1):
Make a magic ring and begin with 2 chain stitches (this chain replaces the first double crochet). Then crochet 1 double crochet. Crochet 1 chain stitch. Repeat: crochet 2 double crochets and then 1 chain stitch a total of 6 times (so 5 more times). Finish with 1 slip stitch in the 2nd chain stitch you made at the beginning.
If you want to change color for the next round, cut the yarn here.

Round 2 (color 2): Use color 2. Start by pulling the yarn through a “space,” that is, where you crocheted 1 chain stitch between the double crochets. In this space, crochet 2 chain stitches (replacing the first double crochet), 1 double crochet, 1 chain stitch, 2 double crochets, and 1 chain stitch—all in the same space.
Then, in the next space, crochet 2 double crochets, 1 chain stitch, 2 double crochets, and 1 chain stitch. Repeat this sequence in all 6 spaces.

In the pattern, the same color is used for round 3. If you want to use a different color for round 3, cut the yarn and start with your new color.
Round 3 (color 2): If you are using the same color, make a slip stitch in the “space” between the two pairs of double crochets (the pairs that were crocheted in the same space in round 1). We do this to get to the correct starting point. If you changed color, start here directly—you do not need to make the slip stitch.

Chain 2 (counts as first double crochet). Then crochet 6 double crochets in the same space. Chain 1.
Insert the hook into the next space (between the pairs of double crochets) and crochet 7 double crochets followed by 1 chain. Continue around the entire round.
Finish by inserting the hook into the 2nd chain of the initial chains. Cut the yarn.

Round 4 (color 3): Tie the yarn into a space from round 2, between the pairs of double crochets (between the 7 double crochets one round below). Secure the yarn and crochet 2 chains so they sit on the front side.

Crochet 7 single crochets in the 7 double crochets from the previous round. Between the 7 double crochets in the previous round, make a double crochet—but work into round 2 instead of round 3. This creates a taller double crochet that defines the petals. Continue around the round. Finish by working into the 2nd chain from the chains you made at the beginning. Cut the yarn on the first piece, but keep the yarn attached on the second piece.

Weave in all yarn ends. If you're unsure how to do this, check out the video below.
Round 5 (color 3): Place both pieces with the right sides facing out. Chain 1. Slip stitch in each stitch through both pieces. If you're unsure how to make a slip stitch, see the video below.

You are done :)

Now we’re going to crochet a trivet! If you need help along the way, check out our simple version of this pattern since this one uses crochet terms only.
Abbreviations:
MR = magic ring
m = stitch
lm = chain stitch
sm = slip stitch
fm = single crochet
st = double crochet
*...* = repeat everything inside *...* the number of times indicated
We start by crocheting two African Flower squares.
Round 1 (color 1): Make a MR and ch 2 (this chain replaces the first dc). 1 dc, ch 1. *2 dc, ch 1* x5.
Finish with 1 sl st in the 2nd ch. If you want to change color for the next round, cut the yarn here.

Round 2 (color 2): Pull the yarn through into a "space" (where you made ch 1 between the dc). In the same space: Ch 2 (counts as the first dc), 1 sc, ch 1, 2 dc, and ch 1.
In the next space: Work 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1.
Repeat this in all 6 spaces.

In the pattern, the same color is used for round 3. If you want to use a different color, cut the yarn and start with your new color.
Round 3 (color 2): If you are using the same color, make a sl st into the space between the two dc pairs (the pairs made in the same space in round 1). If you've changed color, start directly in that space—you do not need the sl st.
Ch 2 (this replaces the first dc). Then work 6 dc in the same space. Ch 1. In the next space: 7 dc, ch 1. Repeat this around the whole round.
Finish by joining with a sl st into the 2nd chain from the beginning. Cut the yarn.

Round 4 (color 3): Tie the yarn into a space from round 2, between the pairs of dc (this space is located between the 7 dc one round below).

Tie the yarn and ch 2 so they sit on the front side.
Crochet 7 sc into the 7 dc from the previous round. Between the groups of 7 dc from the previous round, make 1 dc—but insert your hook into round 2 instead of round 3. This creates a longer dc that outlines the flower petals.
Continue this pattern all the way around. Finish by joining into the 2nd ch from the beginning.
Cut the yarn on the first piece, but keep the yarn attached on the second piece.

Round 5 (color 3): Place the two pieces together with right side facing out.
Ch 1. Sl st in each st, working through both layers.

Fasten off and you are done :)
